DEF LEPPARD's JOE ELLIOTT On Emotional/Unique Sheffield Concerts/The World Tour 2023

Def Leppard 2023. Def Leppard 2023

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott was interviewed earlier today on UK radio and mentioned the upcoming shows in Sheffield.

The World Tour 2023 began in Mexico City on 18th February.

The World Tour 2023 was first announced in October 2022 with Motley Crue.

Joe Elliott On Planet Rock Radio

Earlier today Joe was live on Planet Rock radio to announce The Leadmill show for 19th May in Sheffield, England.

He spoke to fellow Planet Rock DJ Paul Anthony during his Breakfast show.

Joe talked about The World Tour 2023, The Stadium Tour 2022, South American tour, Def Crue plane, Sheffield Bramall Lane show, Definitely The Official Story Of Def Leppard book, Drastic Symphonies album and The Leadmill intimate show.

'Kick' and 'Animal (Drastic Symphonies)' were also played.

Read some quotes about the Sheffield shows below and The World Tour and listen to the full audio via the link.

Unique/Emotional Events

Joe said the Bramall Lane show will be an "emotional day" and that the Leadmill gig will be a "unique event" with many songs played that will not feature on The World Tour shows.

And that the live stream will be worldwide.

The World Tour 2023/Motley Crue

Joe also recalled The Stadium Tour 2022 and playing on The World Tour in 2023 with Motley Crue and how much fun it has been (with no mention of recent MC news stories...).

Joe Elliott/Planet Rock - 3rd may 2023 Interview Quotes - (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

Paul Anthony - "Well we'll talk more about the album when we meet up in a couple of weeks time. But the 19th of May is also a very special day in the Def Leppard calendar. And Joe you're about to reveal why."

Joe Elliott - "Yes, it was a secret gig until right now, but Def Leppard on the 19th, which is the day we release Drastic Symphonies, are playing The Leadmill club in Sheffield."

Joe Elliott - "We've been kind of doing a lot of social media awareness of the fact that. I think the landlord's are trying to close it down."

Joe Elliott - "And we're saying no you can't, it's an iconic venue. And there's many around the country in the same kind of precarious position if you like."

Joe Elliott - "So we're just doing our little bit =. We've been selling on social media that you know you can't let this happen."

Joe Elliott - "So we're just basically putting our money where our mouth is."

Joe Elliott - "And we're doing the gig and we're donating all the proceeds to Music Venue Trust. Which is a charity that's basically trying to save small venues from closing down."

Joe Elliott - "So obviously it's a very small venue. So tickets are gonna be limited and I'll let all you grown ups deal with all that business."

Joe Elliott - "But we're just really glad to be doing it. And we're also recording it. It's gonna be going out live and world wide."

Joe Elliott - "So, and we're gonna play quite a lot of songs that we won't be playing three nights later at Bramall Lane."

Joe Elliott - "So it's gonna be a very very unique event."

Paul Anthony - "Fantastic. 19th of May Sheffield Leadmill. 850 capacity by the way. It's on release day of Drastic Symphonies. Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday 12th May. There is a pre sale by the way. 9am on Thursday the 11th of May. And to improve your chances all you need to do is pre-order the new album through the official Def Leppard store before 5pm on the 10th of May."

Paul Anthony - "But to get to see Def Leppard in that environment it will be something truly truly special won't it."

Joe Elliott - "Well we don't do it very often. We launched the American tour in a little club on, The Strip man, in L.A.."

Joe Elliott - "And that was the first time we'd played a club since I think we did the Academy in London. The Islington Academy in London in 2008 to launch the Sparkle Lounge album."

Joe Elliott - "So it's not and of course, when me and Phil g on our sabbaticals with Delta Deep or the Down 'n' Outz or Vivian with the Last In Line, we'll play the little clubs but Def Leppard don't do it that often."

Paul Anthony - "Brilliant. Well listen Joe always a great pleasure to catch up. I'll see you in a couple of weeks time in London. And we'll see you on the road. Either in that small intimate venue at The Sheffield Leadmill on 19th May or on the UK shows at Sheffield, Wembley, Lytham, Dublin or Glasgow. Joe we'll catch you this Saturday with your show at 5 here on Planet Rock."

Joe Elliott - "Absolutely."

Paul Anthony - "Def Leppard from Diamond Star Halos there's Kick on Planet Rock Breakfast. Six minutes now past 8. This is Paul Anthony and I'm very pleased to say joining me this early on a Wednesday morning my old mate Joe Elliott. Joe how are you?."

Joe Elliott - "I'm grand. How are you? Good morning."

Paul Anthony - "It's almost your bedtime isn't it?."

Joe Elliott - "Yeah normally - there was a time when I actually would be going to bed about this time of the morning."

Paul Anthony - "So let's talk first of all about the massive tour that yourselves and Motley Crue have been on. You did all over the United States and more recently the South American leg. How was it?."

Paul Anthony - "Great you know. The fact that we got started up again last summer in the - I think we started in Atlanta in Georgia in June of '22. It had been postponed for two consecutive years."

Joe Elliott - "Which was kind of annoying, but it did give us the opportunity to record Diamond Star Halos. So with hindsight we were actually quite happy with it because by the time we did go back out last year ticket sales hadn't really - in fact they'd actually gone up from what they were in 2020."

Joe Elliott - "So I think there was a bit of an excitement about seeing a band again live from people that weren't necessarily gonna come first time round."

Joe Elliott - "And we did 36 shows together and it was really brilliant. I mean we had such a great time. Then we went to South America and did our first tour there in about five years which was great fun."

Paul Anthony - "Now when you were on tour in the States you did a blog about your tour bus of some style. And then recently on the South American leg you travelled in even bigger style didn't you."

Joe Elliott - "Yeah well we had the Def Crue plane which sounds very posh. And in fairness it was, but it was extremely essential."

Joe Elliott - "A continent the size of South America, it's impossible to do the shows that we did on the road. You have to do them through the air, because it wasn't just the band in a private plane like you see in one of these movies."

Joe Elliott - "It was actually a huge cargo plane. I think Maiden did something very similar to this. All Motley's gear and all Leppard's gear was underneath in the cargo hold and all the band and crew were up on top."

Joe Elliott - "It would take sometimes three or four days to get the gear from one country to another. Which we could do in a couple of hours."

Joe Elliott - "We wouldn't have been able to do the tour without, you know, taking all the air travel that we did."

Joe Elliott - "But it was great fun because you know god help anybody that fell asleep because John 5 and Tommy Lee would go round, anybody that was asleep in their seat. covering them in plant pots and taking photos."

Joe Elliott - "It was quite surreal to be quite honest. But it was it was very juvenile but it was great fun. And they're a really good bunch of guys to tour with because there's great humour there."

Joe Elliott - "I was sharing wine with Vince. Me and Nikki are always trading off ideas and stuff like that. And John 5 and Tommy are just the life and soul of the party."

Joe Elliott - "In John 5 you're looking at a guy that's, you know, played with everyone from Rob Zombie to Manson and Rod Stewart. But the guy's never had a drink all his life. He's just great fun to be around."

Joe Elliott - "It gave them a good kick up the butt which is probably what they've needed for a while and it was a really good tour that South American tour."

Joe Elliott - "In fact everything that we've done with them has been good. So obviously we're looking forward to doing Europe with them as well."

Paul Anthony - "Speaking of Europe it all kicks off on home turf as far as you're concerned. You beloved Sheffield United's ground Bramall Lane on the 22nd May. To say you'll be looking forward to that would be a bit of an understatement I think Joe."

Joe Elliott - "Yes it would be an understatement. And it's gonna be a total sell out. And even Sav who's a Sheffield Wednesday fan is OK and he's on board with it."

Joe Elliott - "You know all rivalry aside for the sake of rock and roll. It's gonna be an emotional day."

Listen to the full interview on the Planet Rock website. At 2 hours in when 'Kick' is played.
