Show Intro
"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. The very first Joe Elliott show of the year 2018. Christmas is officially over. The New Year's celebrations are still ringing in our ears, but the tree is gone, the ornaments packed away. The Turkey's been polished off or it's gone off. And the half empty beer bottles with cigarette butts floating in 'em all thrown in the trash. And what do we need after all that?. We need one of these."
Sex Pistols
"Yes I don't mind admitting it. As soon as the New Year's celebrations were wrapped up, I headed off on a plane to a little bit of sunshine for a couple of weeks. And that song just about sums it all up from 1977. The Sex Pistols from the album Nevermind The Bollocks with Holidays In The Sun."
Brian Eno
"Which leads us brilliantly into this next one from an album called Here Come The Warm Jets. This is Brian Eno."
"And before that Brian Eno from his debut solo album Here Come The Warm Jets when he'd just left Roxy Music back in 1973. The song Needles In The Camel's Eye."
The Rolling Stones
"Well it wasn't very well received when it was originally released. It was judged to be a poor man's Sgt. Pepper, but with a bit of retrospect it's actually not a bad record. It does have it's moments and that is one of them. The album is Their Satanic Majesty's Request. The band The Rolling Stones. The song we just heard She's A Rainbow."
U2
"Right then heading off into God's country indeed. This is U2."
"And before that U2 from The Joshua Tree. 30 years old last year it was. Still touring it right now. The song In God's Country." - (Note their tour ended on 25th October 2017 in Sao Paulo.)
Placebo
"Have to admit I really, really like that version of the old Kate Bush song. That is Placebo from their covers album called er Covers with Running Up That Hill."
"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back, we're heading off up to the black country for a bit of a communion."
Black Country Communion
"And before that we did indeed hear Black Country Communion. Just finished their few shows in the UK. Got fantastic reviews, great for them. From their latest album the song Wanderlust."
Stevie Wonder
"You don't really get much of a chance to play Stevie Wonder on a station like this because people mostly would think that it doesn't rock, but just listen to that song and many others that he did around the same period and you'll find that he influenced so many rockers that he just deserves to be played now and again. It is Stevie Wonder who was an enormous influence on Glenn Hughes who you heard on the song before, but that from the album At The Close Of The Century, A fantastic box set by Stevie Wonder is the song Higher Ground. You may be more familiar with the Red Hot Chili Peppers version."
Von Hertzen Brothers
"Now here's a band I really, really like. They've put out so many records I've actually lost count, but they still haven't really broke through. Let's hope that they do soon. This is the Von Hertzen Brothers."
"And before that the Von Hertzen Brothers from their latest album War Is Over. With the song The Arsonist."
The Who
"From the songbook of John Entwhistle for a change. Yes that is The Who from their recently released box set Maximum A's and B's. It's the B Side of a long forgotten single. I can't remember which one to be honest with you. The song is called Had Enough."
Greta Van Fleet
"If you listened to the Planet Rock New Year's Eve Party show you may have heard me waxing lyrically about my hopes and dreams for some new bands to break through, or to follow up on their current success and go even higher. Bands like The Struts. I also included this crowd because I really, really like them. This is Greta Van Fleet."
"And before that Greta Van Fleet from their EP which is called Black Smoke Rising with the song Highway Tune."
Wayward Sons
"Another band that I have high hopes for in the year 2018 are that crowd. They are the Wayward Sons. The latest vehicle for the very talented Toby Jepson. Once of Little Angels. Also featuring on drums Phil Martini. The current and fantastic drummer for the Down 'n' Outz. the album is called Ghosts Of Yet To Come. The song Until The End."
Show Outro
"And that my friends, for this first show of the year 2018, is about it. I shall be back with you god willing next week at the same time."
"Until then I'm gonna leave you with a little bit of black and white. Yes, The Stranglers from 1978 and the fantastic Tank. Until next week see ya!."
