Wolverhampton, England - Fan Reviews

Ricky Warwick opened and was surprisingly good, considering acoustic folky-type music isn't really my thing. He was followed swiftly by The Darkness who, despite what other people seem have written, I quite liked, they reminded me of an AC/DC type glam band.
We Will Rock You comes through the pa and then its straight into Disintegrate, white blinding lights flash so bright that the stage is hidden from view, then the riff of Let it Go signals the lights to go up and the band are onstage. Rock! Rock!, Action, Foolin and MLLAM follow quickly before the first new track You're So Beautiful, which sounds heavier live, is performed. Hysteria then brings us back to more familiar territory before they play new single LLWTG. Live this was excellent, it sounded much better than I anticipated and it went down really well too.
The pace was picked up again with a superb Four Letter Word and Promises, then the acoustics come out for a bit of Slade by Joe and then Two Steps Behind. Now was next, live it comes into its own, a future live standard? The highlights of the show, (for me anyway), soon followed - Women and the extended Rocket. Then its into the home straight with Armageddon It, Photograph, Animal, PSSOM and Rock of Ages. For the encore the bands 2 biggest UK singles finish the show - WLAHC and Lets get Rocked. For me the band sounded better than the last 2 tours, the light show was impressive and more importantly they seemed to be having a great time on stage too. Great show.

Last night was a perfect example of Def Leppard in their natural environment, a small venue packed with 2000 or so fans rather than some soulless huge arena.
The night opened with the stripped down Guitar & vocals of Ricky Warwick easing the gig into life. This was followed by The Darkness exploding onto the stage with pounding instrumentals and high-pitched vocals and including a foray into the crowd at one point. Overall a performance that will have me searching out any material they have released. The Leps came on behind blinding flashing lights greeted by a wave of shouting and applause, to deliver what to me was their best performance I have ever witnessed.
Every track was packed with energy and commitment, I have always been dubious in the past of reviews, which have claimed that a band looked as if they were enjoying themselves, after last night I understand what it means. Rock classics were belted out one after another, I have always been of the opinion that if you cannot feel the music pounding your chest and through your feet into your legs, then you are not at a Rock Gig, last night I was and what a gig.
Joe added local flavor with an update on the Wolves football result and an impromptu Slade rendition.
Tracks from X took on a new form as they were filled with thunder & passion, I have since day one been unimpressed with "Long Long Way To Go", but if there was a way to include last night's version on a single I am now sure it would be a guaranteed hit. Highlights - probably "Women" & "Rocket" both of which got extended beefed up versions. Low Points - just under 2 hours was not enough, but then to play all the tracks I wanted to hear there was never going to be enough time.

I've seen the Leps loads of times now, from in the round to Don Valley, but have always dreamed of seeing them in a small venue. Last night that dream came true.
The guys rocked!! They looked so natural and relaxed up there, joking and rocking some mighty fine tunes! I loved it when Joe went into a couple of slade songs, and Phil shouted over "Do you know any Def Leppard tunes?" Phil is a Guitar God, as we all know, and he is a thrill to watch! The crowd was small, but sold out, and all passionate Leppard fans, most knowing the words to songs from "Let it Go" up to "Four Letter Word". So we had quite a sing song!
Hard to pick out a huge favorite because they all rock, but Four Letter Word was great live, and I never fail to have fun when "Let's Get Rocked" is played. They were great, and everytime I see them live they amaze me more. Luckily Joe finished off with those immortal words, "There will be a next time..." Whoo hoo (Well it will be Manchester for me on Sunday but it's good to know they intend to keep on going!!!).

I just wanted to say that I am from Kalamazoo Michigan USA, and I was in Wolverhampton on Feb 19th to catch the show, it was fantastic, they act a lot different in England than they do in the states, great show, and love your site.
Fan Review - DEF JAM By Rachael
Last Night, against my better judgement, I went to see Def Leppard in Wolverhampton. I can't say I was looking forward to seeing a bunch of cheesy old has-beens, but I went with my friend to keep her happy. You can imagine how pissed off I felt when I found out that I'd have to pay £26 for the honour, only a quid less than it cost me to see Korn in Manchester. I love Korn and their music and back in 1987 when I was a teenager I loved Def Leppard, but my heart is with Korn these days and so I was surprised to find myself actually enjoying the concert last night. In their almost-two hours onstage Def Leppard were energetic, enthusiastic and clearly enjoying themselves; I contrast that with the sterile 50-minute show Korn produced. I know Korn deal with some less-than-pleasant issues, but they are musicians supposedly doing the job they love, after last night I feel a bit ripped off and let down by them. It was refreshing last night to watch Def Leppard so honestly plying their trade.
