Bournemouth, England - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Christopher

One word, Wow!

My god they were great, better than great, fantastic, what an opening, with 'Action', the lights the power, and my god, you could actually hear them to, this show kicked Portsmouth's ass completely. They were so active and getting the typical Bournemouth crowd going, well eventually. 'Rocket' was brilliant and Joe sang 'Radar Love' in the middle of it, everyone was great.

It was good to see a wide range of audience through young teens to hard rockers, this had it all! The light show was brilliant. I want to see them again.

Hubby drove Nat and I to this one - planned to leave at 1pm but didn't get away until nearly 3pm!! Horrible journey - pelting with rain - not fun to drive in. We were prepared to queue in awful conditions - however, when we got there, the BIC was open and, already, two queues had been started - one on the far left hand side and one on the far right hand side. We chose the right hand side and were around 10th in the Q. After staking our claim by leaving our jackets there, we sat down in warmth and comfort - what a GREAT way to queue for bands - please, all venues note - do this always!!!

I found myself really looking forward to seeing MusT as well as the Lepps and decided to buy a MusT T-shirt - sent hubby back to the car with it - and then Nat saw the drummer of MusT and nabbed him. He stopped for a quick chat - WHAT a nice guy - and pulled out a couple of MusT pix for us which he promptly signed. Nat then met the bass player - Myke Gray - whom I hope will actually join the band as he is not currently a permanent member - and she got 2 autographs from him (thanks Nat!). If that wasn't enough, a little later, Mr Phillip Collen comes out of the doors into the Foyer and we waved and said hello. Nat had a birthday card for Rick Allen and asked Phil if he would deliver it for her. When he said yes, she promptly grabbed him very cheekily and planted one on his cheek - good on yer gal!

It was the most relaxed waiting experience ever, although when the 2 sets of doors finally opened, there were 2 queues filtering in. We did get front row (again!) but this time over the very far right hand side of the stage - slightly right of where Phil's mike was!

Ricky Warwick - again a very enjoyable set, although I personally prefer the music he made with the almighty "The Almighty" - but the guy can really sing, that's for sure.

MusT - WHAT a band - just love them to bits! The lead singer - Dave Ireland - was born for the stage - a natural - amazing voice - and the way he moves is a little reminiscent of Michael Hutchence. They started with my fave 'One Night Stand', and followed this with 'As We Stand On You' - a new track since it isn't on their CD. A few tracks later and another one of my faves called either Pleasure Crush or 'Paradise Crush' - again, not on the CD - but LOVE that track. They ended with 'Heartbreaker' and I felt again as though I wanted to hear more and that their set had not been long enough - hope they do their own tour next year!

Onto the Lepps - I just knew they wouldn't do the High n Dry set - I was disappointed to realise I was right. However, another really good set played brilliantly to a rockin' crowd. Started with 'Action', followed by 'Rock Rock' which always gets the crowd going and 'Make Love Like A Man'. 'Women' was next - again, way too early in the set for me personally - but always a favourite with both me and the entire crowd!! Then 'Hysteria', 'When Love & Hate Collide', and the fantastic crowd-rocker 'Slang!' On and forwards to '4 Letter Word', 'Promises' and '2 Steps Behind' which saw Joe - as usual - invite the audience to "join Def Leppard for 4 minutes". He said we were nearly as loud as Plymouth! The rest of the set followed - 'Now', 'Rocket (my favourite track live for this tour which was extended with Radar Love), 'Armageddon It', 'Photograph', 'Animal', 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' and 'Rock of Ages'. Encores were 'Love Bites' and 'Let's Get Rocked', a track under debate as a closer by fans, but I think it's an awesome track to end a gig on - what a high!

Highlights: Apart from the whole gig - having Sav come over to our side of the stage, pose for Nat for a picture, and when she didn't click in time, he looked at his watch and back at her smiling as if to say "I haven't got all night"!

Only one more to go - I think it will be the biggest and best of them all - but I don't want it to arrive because I know this is all soon going to be over!.

Fan Review - By Paul S (saltzfoolin)

Its been 6 or 7 years since I last saw Def Leppard, for some reason they don't come to Australia. Well any way I was back in the UK visiting Mum and Dad and what luck my boyhood hero's were playing down the road. The drive from Salisbury was very poor, the rain. Well the gig was pretty good, I have seen the band at different times in their careers and this time in Bournemouth I thought their sound guy did them no favours, a couple of times during the show Joe's voice was completely lost, but saying this the high lights of the show was the older stuff. The songs from Pyromania and Hysteria were brilliant, shame no songs from High N Dry. So coming 12,000 miles was worth it but I have seen them perform better, maybe a better set list would of helped. How can us Aussie fans get them down under?.

I saw my first Def Lep gig when I was just 13, at Wembley Arena. I did love it, but now I'm 20, and prefer the gigs in smaller venues as you can get much closer to DL. Must say I read the review by Paul S (review 3) - the guy that mentioned Sav looking at his watch, having posed for ages for a photo.

Me & my blokey Matt were in fact in the crowd just a few places behind them n saw - it was quite funny. Matt almost got me one of Sav's guitar picks after the gig - but was just slightly too slow on the dive for it! I was gutted as Sav's my fave Leppard n I would've loved to nab this off Matt =) We were unfortunate that one guy near us was acting like a prat - jumping up n down, elbowing n falling on peeps. He annoyed us soooo much, n quite a few other people around us.

I thought DL did 'Now' really cool. I always enjoy Love Bites, Hysteria, Pour Some Sugar On Me n the other classics. Did also find myself going bit nuts to Slang - it had me jumpin up n down like a nut for quite some time!

Wicked, wicked concert. Can't wait for the next time I get to see em. Really wanna meet the Leps, spesh after reading bout all the stories other fans have had meeting them-posted on the official DL site.
