- Location / Dublin, Ireland
- Venue / McGonagles / McGonagles Club
- Event / Freddie Mercury Tribute Warm-Up Show
The first show by the band in this city since August 1987 on the Hysteria tour.
The first time at this venue and a warm-up show for the Freddie Mercury Tribute.
Also the first live show by the band since 27th October 1988 in Tacoma, WA on the 'Hysteria' tour.
The venue was located in the city centre and not far from St. Stephen's Green to the south and Trinity College to the north.
It was opened in the early 1950s as The Crystal Ballroom.
U2 would write a song of the same name for their 2014 album 'Songs Of Innocence' about the venue where they played many early shows.
In the 1970s the venue was renamed as McGonagles.
It hosted concerts from at least early 1978 until around December 1992.
This show was Vivian Campbell's debut concert with the band. And his first live appearance since December 1991 in London with Shadow King and the start of his first major tour since the 1987/1988 Whitesnake tour.
Vivian made some of his first ever live appearances in this venue with the band Sweet Savage, as did U2.
The 17 song setlist featured the live debut of 'Let's Get Rocked' and the only playing of 'Die Hard The Hunter' with Vivian in he band until August 2019 at the 'Sin City Residency'.
'Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)' was not played again until late 1993 and the only time on the whole tour it was played in it's usual form (without the album intro).
Vivian had already been announced as the new guitar player by the press before this show and the upcoming London show which was intended to be his public debut/unveiling.
The first encore was used to rehearse the three song set to be played at the upcoming Wembley Stadium show on 20th April.
A decent audience recording exists from this show.
