Dublin, Ireland - Media Reviews/Show Stories
From Animal Instinct
"Dublin was almost like a hometown gig for the band. They had spent nearly half of the last three years there, doing pre-production and recording. Indeed, at the S.F.X. Hall on August 13, the freebies practically outnumbered the paying customers. Among the more than three hundred guests were Windmill Lane Studio staff, lawyers, accountants and their families as well as members of U2 and top Irish folk band Clannad. U2 drummer Larry Mullen raved about Rick's drumming after the show and at the post-show party people kept going up to Joe Elliott and saying "God, I can't believe it's really you up there." "That's because they'd never seen us as a band, actually playing," Joe explains. "As far as they were concerned, we were studio musicians."

"The final Irish show, Dublin was great. Besides the show going well, we had to play in front of all these people who had been working with us in the studio and about town who had never seen us play, (and there were enough of those to fill SFX Hall) and they absolutely freaked at the fact that we could play and play well. Remember, these folks had thought we were just a studio band, having spent close to two years writing and recording in Dublin. They were amazed. We had a good party afterwards and then it was off to the UK for the first of our four outdoor shows."
