Cybernauts August 1997

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen has given another update on the Cybernauts album plans in a new interview.

These plans were first announced back in 2012 by Joe who said they might record new material and tour in 2013.

These plans were thrown into disarray following the deaths on Dick Decent (keyboards) and later in 2013 of bassist Trevor Bolder.

The band played in both 1994 and later for a short tour in August 1997 as The Spiders From Mars. The Dublin show was recorded for a live album.

They regrouped in 2001 as the Cybernauts. Touring Japan and releasing the live album together ('Cybernauts Live') with a bonus CD called 'The Further Adventures Of' which featured newly recorded studio cover versions.

Phil also talked during the lengthy interview about the current tour, album, side projects and his guitar playing. He also said their tour manager Malvin is currently "taking a break" as he has had a "tough year".

Just Listen To This - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

"Oh wow! We are actually gonna do a proper album because we recorded some and it came out in dribs and drabs."

Who does that involve?

"The Spiders From Mars – Trevor Boulder, Woody Woodmansey. I was doing the Mick Ronson stuff and Joe ( Elliott) was doing (David) Bowie. Then we had the late Dick Decent on keyboards who would do an amazing Mike Garson. But he passed away, he actually died a few years ago and it was just awful. Trevor (Boulder) passed away from cancer. But Woody’s recorded some drum tracks and we’re gonna do three more songs. We are gonna do a ten-track album and I think ‘Life On Mars’ will be on there."
