Kane O/96.5 WCMF - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes
What's Next For The Band?
"You know being in a rock band's like being an astronaut. Once you've been into space you either want to keep going up there. Or you say, I've been there and done that. And we're lucky that we wanna keep going you know."
"We've been blessed with this kind of longevity that we've had and the camaraderie that the band has amongst itself to wanna keep doing it. And the fun that we have. I mean it is fun you know. And I never saw the point in retiring if you enjoy what you're doing."
"You know everybody else in the workplace works till they're 65 years old. And you look at a lot of the rock stars days and they're way beyond that because they enjoy what they're doing I'd imagine. I can't see them needing the money. So you know there has to be a vocation, hobbyist kind of mentality to a lot of this."
"I don't know what there is left for us to achieve. I really don't, because you know as long as we keep waking up in the morning. And one of us looks at the other four and goes: 'Whenever we get round to doing it. I've got this great idea for a new song.' That just makes me so happy that we're all still thinking along those lines. That we wanna leave a legacy behind that didn't end in 1988."
Writing New Songs Again
"We did this live album in 2011 called Mirrorball. And just as we were mixing it we were all like, let's write a couple of songs and see what we do. And we wrote three new songs and tagged them on to the end of the live album. We kind of re woke our mojo to wanting to write again. So that's how this album came about."
"You know it wasn't really planned as an album. We'd written those three songs and then we said let's write three more and see what happens. And when we got together - you know when four or five creative guys walk into a room for the first time since 2011 to write songs. You go well who's got what?. You're gonna have more than three you know and we ended up with 12."
"And we were like, you know we worked on them for a couple of months and then we took a couple of months off. And lived with them and let them percolate. And when we came back to work on those 12 we wrote two more. And then we had 14 and then we all kind of looked at each other said 'I think we've got an album on the go here'. And it was almost made accidentally. Which is a great way to make an album you know because it was unplanned."
Changes In The Record Industry
"I'll be honest with you the ticket sales for the last two tours have been bigger than most of the shows on the Hysteria tour."
