Show Intro

"Greetings everyone and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Always a pleasure. Sixty minutes, one hour to play you some fantastic tunes in my humble opinion. Including this one that we're opening the show with tonight. This long lost classic that never was but shuould have been. This is Glimmer."

Glimmer

"Yes folks welcome to the new voice of The Quireboys. You just heard a band called Glimmer but the singer in Glimmer is rhythm guitarist for The Quireboys Guy Griffin. He fronted that band. He actually formed that band in the early 2000s when The Quireboys were on a bit of a sabbatical I suppose. They'd split up. They would later from and make some great music over the last ten years or so. But they have parted company with Spike and Griff has taken over as a very capable lead singer. Yes he can handle that microphone as well as he can handle his guitar. But that is Glimmer there. The album is Silver Zone. And the song a great opening tune for tonight's show. Velveteen."

Garbage

"Right then here's Shirley and co doing what she does best being a bit of a super vixen. This is Garbage."

"And before that we heard Garbage from their eponymously titled debut album with Supervixen."

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

"There's a great story behind the reason that the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Fir it is they that we just heard. Recorded that song that we just heard. Back in the early 70s SAHB, as we like to call them, were opening for Jethro Tull on a European tour. And I believe they were driving through the Basque region of Spain when they were pulled over and had all their gear stolen at gun point. They managed to get to the gig and explained to Jethro Tull that we've just had all our gear stolen so we can't possibly do the show. And good old Ian Anderson and company allowed the Sensational Alex Harvey Band to use their gear so they could get on with the show until they could get some new gear delivered. What a fantastic thing for the headline band to do for their opening act. This is one of the reasons I Jethro Tull so much. But that was the Sensational Alex Harvey Band from an album called The Penthouse Tapes with their version of Tull's Love Story."

David Gilmour

"He's been in the news this week for reforming his old band and doing a great thing for the Ukranian cause. Here he is solo tough. This is David Gilmour."

"And before that David Gilmour who this week has been in the news for reforming Pink Floyd with the singer from a Ukranian band called Boom Box. he was on tour in the States and came home to fight for his country. But took the time out to record himself singer a traditional Ukranian song in a destroyed square in a town and Pink Floyd have taken his voice and they have sampled it and turned it into a song which I think is a very honourable thing to do. But there we just heard David Gilmour solo from an album called About Face. The song is All Lovers Are Deranged."

Peter Gabriel

"Featuring Stewart Copeland from The Police on the drums there. That is Peter Gabriel from the 25th anniversary deluxe edition of the album So with the opening track, and what a track, Red Rain."

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up we're going on a bit of a fox trot with Genesis."

Genesis

"And before that we heard Genesis. From the 2016 half speed master version of Fox Trot with Watcher Of The Skies."

Split Enz

"The album is called Mental Notes. For a good reason actually 'cause it's pretty mental. But I absolutely love it. Split Enz. I won that album in a competition in NME or Sounds or something back in 1876. Saw them live opening for Jack The Lad. Who were themselves were a spin off of Lindisfarne. It was a very strange bill but they were a very strange band. So it was a match made in heaven. The song that we just heard from Split Enz Walking Down A Road."

The Pretenders

"Right then with a track from one of my favourite albums of all time. This is The Pretenders."

"And before that The Pretenders. What an incredible album Pretenders II is. The song that we just heard I Go To Sleep."

Lou Reed

"What a fantastic album Transformer is. That is Lou Reed produced by Mick Ronson and David Bowie. In that order because apparently Ronno did a hell of a lot of work on that record. The song that we just heard Satellite Of Love."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. So you know what not to do. Like yes, don't touch that dial. Stay tuned. Where else would you wanna be other than right here on Planet Rock."

"Let's go out with this one. The end track of one of the greatest albums of the 70s. Certainly 1973. The album is Band On the Run. The band is Paul McCartney and Wings and this is Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five. Until next week see ya!."
