Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock."

"Always a pleasure to be with you, although tonight I must say I haven't had the need to say this for a while but it's actually very much the Joe Elliott obituary show tonight because we are going to be celebrating the life and times and music of some folk who have recently gone off to the great gig in the sky."

"But before we go there let's at least celebrate this fact. This gentleman that we're going to open the show with is about to release his second album in two years and is at the age now where most of us should be in bed with Coco, 84 and he's still awesome. This is Ian Hunter."

Ian Hunter

"Yes hot on the heels of last year's Defiance Part 1 that is Ian Hunter from the upcoming album Defiance Part 2."

"Again like the first album of this Defiance series, many many guests on every song, Cheap Trick, who else is on it, I mean there's so many people, Stone Temple Pilots, Jeff Beck once again, Taylor Hawkins and for the first time ever on record, myself and Brian May."

"We've played on stage many times together but we've never actually been on a studio recording before and we are both guests on that song that you just heard Brian's guitar, very distinctive towards the end there. The song that we heard and I'm really looking forward to you guys hearing this entire album. The song is Precious."

Cockney Rebel

"Right, well as I mentioned in my introduction it is pretty much the Joe Elliott obituary show tonight and we're going to start off with a guy that was a huge influence on me as a kid. I saw his band a few times at the Sheffield City Hall in the mid-70s."

"Always a great entertaining performance. He was a fantastic songwriter, one of the greatest character singers of all time."

"I'm of course talking about Steve Harley who recently passed away at the very young age of 73. Very recently diagnosed with cancer, that came really out of the blue, such a shock. But the guy was such a talent, I'm going to be featuring a few of his songs throughout the show. Let's start off with a song from the album Psychomodo. This is Steve Harley featuring Cockney Rebel."

"And before that Cockney Rebel featuring Steve Harley from a collection called Cavaliers which is pretty much all their early albums all boxed together, but the album is Psychomodo and we heard the title track."

"I'm going to be playing a couple more things from Steve Harley later on in the show."

World Party

"What a wonderful song that is. His world party from the album Private Revolution with Ship Of Fools and I'm playing that because just a few days before Steve Harley passed away we lost Karl Wallinger who sings, wrote that tune."

"He was only 66 and this is where he starts to get really freaky for people like me because it's just a little too close for comfort. But wonderful song, great band, rest in peace, Karl Wallinger, really sad."

Raspberries

"Right, here's a really cool couple of slices of Americana Power Pop, starting off with the Raspberries."

"And before that we heard the Raspberries and I did play that because I think it was actually the same day as Karl Wallinger we lost Eric Carmen who was the lead singer of the Raspberries."

"He would go on to have some amazing solo success including one song called All By Myself which was a big hit in the mid-70s, it sold so well it actually outsold the entire catalogue of the Bay City Rollers at the time and they were pretty popular."

"The song that we heard tonight, so rest in peace also Eric Carmen."

Cheap Trick

"What an incredible piece of work that is, that is Cheap Trick who are thankfully still with us and I'm glad about it because they're actually doing some shows with Def Leppard this summer from an album called One on One, it's the wonderful If You Want My Love."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott obituary Show this week, coming up some more Steve Harley."

Cockney Rebel

"And before that more Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel once again we revisited the album The Psychomodo, the song we heard this time Ritz."

Bronco

"They were never a big band but I really loved the singer's voice. The singer was Jess Rodin who would have a relatively successful solo career in the mid-70s. The band are Bronco."

"The album is called Ace Of Sunlight, the song we heard Amber Moon."

Trivia - What Joe did not mention is this song also features guests Ian Hunter on piano and Mick Ralphs on organ from Mott The Hoople.

Bon Jovi

"Okay so from No Longer With Us to He's Back and hey he sounds great, sounds like a full recovery to me. This is brand new Bon Jovi."

"And before that the brand new single from Jon Bon Jovi. Sounds like he has fully recovered from his throat operation, fingers crossed that they will actually tour again."

"The album is called Forever, the song, the first track that they've released from the upcoming new album Legendary."

Alice Cooper

"This stuff there from The Mighty Coop, that is Alice Cooper from the 1971 album Love It To Death with Long Way To Go."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week, it's been a real pleasure as always although I don't really ever want to do this again."

"I don't like having to announce the fact that people have gone and they're no longer with us but the great thing is their music is always with us."

"So on that note I'm going to once again revisit the album Psychomodo, it was and is my favourite ever Cockney Rebel album, not that he ever made a bad one."

"But this is the perfect song to end this week's show with. From the album Psychomodo once again, rest in peace Steve Harley, this is Cockney Rebel and Tumbling Down. Till next week, be good people."
