DEF LEPPARD To Release PYROMANIA 40 Super Deluxe Edition Box Set With Unreleased Songs

Def Leppard will release a 40th anniversary Super Deluxe version of Pyromania in late April including rare songs.

The 40th anniversary 'Pyromania 40 Super Deluxe Edition' will be released on Friday 26th April 2024 via Universal Music Recordings.

The release follows a year of band celebrations on social media using the #pyromania40 hashtag and recent video teasers.

40th Anniversary Release

The band have today confirmed the news that seemed more and more likely in recent weeks of an expanded box set for the seminal 1983 album 'Pyromania'.

And unlike the 2009 Deluxe Edition this time the band have gone further into the vaults and unearthed some rare archive material.

Multiple formats have been announced including the Super Deluxe 4CD/Blu-ray edition, 2CD edition and various vinyls.

The 2CD includes the main album with CD2 acting as a sampler of the Super Deluxe Edition.

Rare Material/22 Tracks

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this release is the inclusion of 22 rare and unheard tracks.

This includes a newly found song called 'No You Can't Do That' and a selection of 6 untitled demos, 5 more demos and 10 rough mixes of album tracks.

Other rarities include the full instrumental version and new mixes of the album.

No You Can't Do That

This song is possibly one that Steve Clark wrote and the band have newly discovered and finished off.

Listed as an Out-Take there is also a demo version included of the song on the same disc.

The familiar 'Die Hard The Hunter' lyric 'no you can't do that' suggests it is related to or a different version of that music.

Atmos Mix/Abbey Road Studios

Another exciting part of this release is a new mix in Atmos sound by Giles Martin at Abbey Road studios.

Giles is the son of Beatles producer Sir George Martin who has been working on various Beatles reissues in recent years.

This mix is included on the Blu-ray disc of the Super Deluxe Edition along with a New Stereo Mix, a 5.1 Mix and a full instrumental version.

The booklet features Ross Halfin photos and new interviews with each band member.

A separate 'Half Speed Master' vinyl edition is also available and was mastered at Abbey Road Studios (see explanation below).

Live Songs

The L.A. Forum show is included for its third release and for the first time the audio from the Dortmund Rock Pop Festival is included.

Hysteria 40 Preview/Promo Videos

Joe mentioned a few years ago that the band definitely plan on releasing a 'Hysteria' 40th anniversary edition in 2027.

This new release would seem to give a good indication of what we can expect from that release.

Rick Allen's recent interview where he talked about a possible 'On Through The Night' box set also suggests there is one coming in 2025 for that albums 45th anniversary.

The promo videos and TV performances listed on the Blu-ray might be the first view of the newly restored videos first mentioned by Joe in 2019.

Material due to be released as part of the '20/20 Vision' series that was postponed before any announcement due to the pandemic.
