Show Intro

"Well folks the tree is up. The wine is cooling. The beer is in the fridge. The roast beef is on order and we have sixty minutes to play some rollickingly good music this week. Welcome one and all. You are listening to Planet Rock. I'm Joe Elliott. And this is Slade."

Slade

"Yes listeners of a certain age may well remember the heady days of Top Of The Pops back in 1973. When Slade seemed to be on just about every week. Of curse they weren't but it does appear that way when you look at it through the rose tinted glasses we all wear at a certain time in our life. Now I have no doubt that between now and Christmas we're gonna hear that song by Slade over and over again. So I thought I'd just play something different this week. Taken from their greatest hts album Feel The Noise. That is Slade with Take Me Bak 'ome."

The Quireboys

"Right then here's some absolutely brand new Quireboys."

"And before that we heard The Quireboys. Absolutely brand spanking new Quireboys. From an album due out next year called The Band Rolls On. Featuring I believe for the first time ever Guy Griffin on lead vocals. And what a great job he is doing. Now it's not specifically a charity single but the guys are kind of suggesting that if you enjoy the song they'd really like you to donate to a fantastic charity called Calm. Which is the campaign against living miserably. Something that's very close to their hearts. So if you love it throw a few bob towards Calms way. And looking forward to the new album next year. It is The Band Rolls On. They are The Quireboys. And the brand new song we just heard, well done guys, Lie To Me."

Elton John

"Now when I got home last week after being being away for the best part of what six months or so. You can only imagine the amount of mail waiting for me when I got back. And amongst all the dross and the bills there were some beautiful packages waiting to be torn open. And one of them I just couldn't wait to get to and we just heard a track from said package. It is the 50th anniversary re-release of that classic Elton John album Madman Across the Water. Originally out in 1972. Wanted to play something from it even though I know I played Elton last week. But it's a wonderful record. It's a fantastic package, And I wanted to play something that is in my opinion a bit of a hidden gem. It's the song Holiday Inn. Wonderful bit of work."

Black Star Riders

"And here's yet more new music for ya. From their forthcoming album The Wrong Side Of Paradise. This is the brand new release from the Black Star Riders."

"And before that we heard the Black Star Riders. The album is out next year I believe. Early next year. it is called The Wrong Side Of Paradise. The song we just heard is the brand new single Riding Out the Storm."

Def Leppard

"Humble, thankful, proud. But fist pumpingly happy. That Diamond Star Halos has been voted Album Of The Year in this month's Classic Rock magazine. Album of the year 2022. What a great honour. Thank you everyone involved in that particular decision. And the killer track according to the article which I've yet to see actually is the song that we just heard. Which is a great coup for Mr. Savage 'cause he wrote that one all on his own. It is Def Leppard there from Diamond Star Halos. The song, the last track on the album, From Here To Eternity."

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up well we just heard a song from an album called Diamond Star Halos. We're gonna stick with the theme of halos with Alice Cooper."

Alice Cooper

"And before that the mighty Alice Cooper. Who will be joining Def Leppard and Motley Crue for ten shows next summer in the US. I think they call it back by popular demand. But that's where I came on board 1971. The album is Killer. The song, and what a song, Halo Of Flies."

David Bowie

"So a couple of nights ago I finally got to see this rockumentary that I'd been waiting to see since last summer. But things being what they were, being on tour and it being in the cinemas. I was never in the right place at the right time so I missed it. But I finally got to see Moonage Daydream and what a fantastic bit of work it is. If you're a David Bowie fan. It's an absolute must. It's a colourfest. And in his own words I learnt more about David Bowie than I ever knew. And I thought I new it all. It's a wonderful bit of work. As is the song that we just heard which works brilliantly in te movie actually. That's the version from Glastonbury 2000. It is David Bowie with Hallo Spaceboy."

The Pretty Reckless

"And sticking with the theme of David Bowie for just a little bit longer. There's a version of this next song in Moonage Daydream which is totally different to the version that you would know from the album Hunky Dory. This version again different because this is The Pretty Reckless."

"And before that The Pretty Reckless. Now when I first heard this song I'm listening to the piano tinkling off into the distance thinking well that sounds familiar. Sounds a little bit like Def Leppard did on the Diamond Star Halos album when we borrowed Mike Garson. David Bowie's pianist since Aladdin Sane back in 1973. So I looked it up and lo and behold it's Mike Garson playing with The Pretty Reckless on a David Bowie tune. The album is Other Worlds. The song, originally on David Bowie's Hunky Dory album back in 1971, Quicksand."

Neil Young

"And yet another package that was waiting for me on my doorstep. Metaphorically speaking. When got home, was that beauty. Neil Young's Harvest. The 50th anniversary deluxe re-release. Album originally came out in 19732. The reason I love this box set so much is they're like 150 page books. With a couple of CDs thrown in. So it's great reading as you're listening to some music you've known all your life. Wonderful stuff. I first heard that one when I think I was 13 or 14 years old. The song we just heard Old Man."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. But you know that already don't you. I will be back with you next week at exactly the same time.

"So until then I shall leave you with this. Having started the show off with some fantastic Glam-tasic Slade. Let's end it with some Glam-tastic fantastic Sweet. But this is no three minute pop song. This from the Sweet Fanny Adams album is Set Me Free. Until next week See ya!."
