Speakeasy TV - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

Friendship

"You can't teach friendship. You can't teach loyalty. You can't teach..."

(David Fricke) - "You can't teach the mistakes that teach you what to do next."

"No. You can't teach the fact that some people belong together even if they don't wanna be together. Paul Simon's great. Art Garfunkel's great. Simon and Garfunkel is greater. But you know you can't tell..and I get why Oasis, The Kinks...brotherly love is the biggest problem."

Dreams

"Oh we absolutely made it up as we went along. But based on the fact that we, we weren't privileged to this. But we thought it was our destiny to be the biggest band in the world. And nobody was gonna stop us. If you don't dream like that when you're 17 you're never going to."

Speakeasy TV - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

The Def Leppard front man opens up to Rolling Stone editor/author Fricke (Animal Instinct: The Def Leppard Story) about the band’s trajectory – from the teen hijinks of the band first conceived out of boredom as “Deaf Leopard” in post-war England through changes in the lineup and their continuing legacy headlining with opening acts that were once their aspirational idols. Elliott reveals what makes a great band, why a good rhyme trumps proper geography for a hit song, how modern rock training may be the worst thing for the future of rock music, Living with the spectre of Hysteria, and more. Filmed at the Iridium in New York City.
