Show Intro

"Hey everybody welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is as always great to be with you for another sixty minutes of what I like to think is amazing music. Let's head straight off to Cosmo's factory. This is Creedence Clearwater Revivial."

Creedence Cleaerwater Revivial

"I bought that album in 1970 with my very hard earned pocket money. It is Creedence Clearwater Revivial. It's Cosmo's Factory which also features a fantastic 15 minute version of Marvin Gaye's I Heard It Through The Grapevine. The song that we just heard though was the mighty Up Around The Bend."

David Bowie

"So that was 1970. Fast forward two years to 1972. The year that I and half the UK discovered the great work or Mr. David Bowie when we saw him live on Top Of The Pops. Or if you were very very smart you saw him a few weeks earlier on Lift Off With Ayshea. Anyway the thing is when you discover an artist on his fourth or his fifth album you have, if you have enough pocket money, the money to go back and buy the back catalogue. Which went for me all the way back to 1969 and the Space Oddity album until all the rarity stuff started coming out. Like this lovely slice of narcissism from 1966."

"Aptly titled because it was about a decade after David Bowie, the then David Jones, with the Lower Third and many other little bands that he was in that never made it, released such songs as the one that we just heard Can't Help Thinking About Me."

The Stranglers

"I always find it fascinating and a little sad that when documentaries are made on mid seventies music, Punk, New Wave, that that band are never very well featured. In fact very rarely at all. For me they were one of the better bands to come out of that whole musical genre. They are The Stranglers. The song we just heard (Get A) Grip (On Yourself) from their collection Decades Apart."

Rod Stewart

"Another chap who didn't actually make it until the early seventies but had been knocking around the Mod scene since the mid sixties. Hence his nickname Rod The Mod. Was this chap. Yeah you guessed it Rod Stewart."

"And before that Rod Stewart from the album Never A Dull Moment with the massive hit and well deserved You Wear It Well."

John Sloman

"Couple of weeks ago I played a track by the band Lone Star and lo and behold I had an email from John Sloman. Singer of said band saying thank you very much. He also sent me a copy of his latest solo record which came out last year. It's called Eldorado. He likes to pronounce it El Do Ray Do. that's how the locals pronounce it apparently. So it tomato tomato whatever. There we just heard the title track of said album by John Sloman."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is time for a little break and when we come back, Sir Paul McCartney with a mighty tale on the perils of ignorance."

Paul McCartney

"And before that Paul McCartney from the album Egypt Station. Number One in the middle of 2018. Bit a bad achievement for a guy that's been in the music industry for over 50 years. The song we heard Despite Repeated Warnings."

Ace Frehley

"When all four members of KISS released solo albums on the same day way back in 1978 the consensus seemed to be after they'd all been listened to that they were very surprised at how good Ace Frehley's album was. And there what turned out to be the last track on side two for all you vinyl freaks. A lovely instrumental piece called Fractured Mirror."

Pat Travers

"Now here's a guy I saw live many times in the mid seventies opening for Alex Harvey playing in front of few people with Nicko McBrain on drums at the Sheffield Polytechnic. And then offering us the support spot on our first ever American tour in 1980. Ladies and gentleman I give you the very wonderful and very brave Pat Travers."

"And before that Pat Travers from his debut album back in 1976 with the song Makes No Difference."

Horslips

"You can easily hear the Irish flavour in that one can't you. That is a band called Horslips from Dublin in 1976. But I saw them at the Sheffield Top Rank a couple of times. From their album Book Of Invasions. The song we heard The Power And The Glory."

Killing Joke

"Now here's a band that were front runners at a whole new area of 80s rock and were a huge influence on the likes of Kurt Cobain. This is Killing Joke."

"And before that Killing Joke from their 1984 album Night Time with a fantastic bit of work called Love Like Blood."

The Clash

"Wow if you could bottle that energy you'd never get a top on it. that is The Clash from their debut album back in 1976 with the song Career Opportunities."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time god willing for sixty minutes more of what I like to think is fantastic music. If nothing else it just keeps us all entertained for at least an hour."

"So I'm gonna leave you this week with this. And if we couldn't keep The Clash in a bottle we're hardly likely to keep this lot in one either. This from their collection Mania is the Ramones with Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment. Until next week see ya!."
