Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. I am currently enjoying a little break having just done a four week run which took us through Hawaii, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. And I can not wait to bring this show, Hysteria 2018, to the UK and Ireland in two weeks. Two weeks tonight as it happens. What have we got for ya tonight though?. Sixty minutes of magnificent music in my humble opinion. Starting off with this bad boy. This is The Sweet."

The Sweet

"Originally from their 1976 album Give Us A Wink that is Sweet. But that version is the singles version that's taken from their Ultimate Story Collection. The song Action. One that of course if you're a Def Leppard fan you know that we recorded it and it achieved the exact same chart position as the original. And we've been throwing it in and out the set in our And More part of the show while we were in Japan and Australia. So somewhere in the UK you may get to hear us do that. ."

Cheap Trick

"Now a band that will be playing with us when we hit the UK and Ireland are this crowd and I really hope they play this song. This is Cheap Trick."

"And before that Cheap Trick from the album Bang, Zoom, Crazy...Hello. Really hope they play that song live. It is Blood Red lips."

Rush

"Now I saw that band's first ever UK gig back in 1976 at the Sheffield City Hall. Oh yes I did. They were essentially touring the All the World's A Stage live album. They had recorded Farewell To Kings. It was yet to be release so they only played from that particular record. But that from their debut album back in 1973 is Rush with Finding My Way."

Muse

"Right then this is brand new Muse."

"Before that we heard Muse. It's brand new. The album is called Simulation Theory. The song Pressure."

Be Bop Deluxe

"That is another band that I saw live at the Sheffield City Hall back in 1976 and they were magnificent. There it was in the middle of the stage at the start of the show a big glass tube full of dry ice and as it starts to dissipate it starts to reveal a gentleman in a white suit holding up a beautiful Les Paul. Holding a brilliant bit of feedback on and it was one Mr. Bill Nelson. That very feedback that we just heard because the opening song of the night was Fair Exchange. From their 1970 album Sunburst Finish that is Be Bop Deluxe."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back, we're gonna go all hurdy gurdy with Mr. Steve Hillage."

Steve Hillage

"And before that Steve Hillage, who on that particular record would use Todd Rundgren's Utopia as his band and let Todd Rundgren produce the album. 1976 it was. The album is L. The song a cover of the old Donovan classic Hurdy Gurdy Man."

Van Halen

"And yet another band that I saw at the Sheffield City Hall. This time it was 1977 and this time they were the opening act for Black Sabbath. You have to remember the Sheffield City Hall was only a 2,200 seater so it wasn't a big place. But to see a band like Van Halen as an opening act was pretty spectacular. There though they are from 1980. The album is Women And Children First. The song And The Cradle Will Rock."

Note - The show was actually on 16th May 1978.

KISS

Now here's a band that I definitely didn't see at the Sheffield City Hall 'cause they were too big. This is KISS."

"And before that we heard another band who have just announced their, I guess, farewell tour. If it's anything like Elton John's it may go on forever. It is KISS, The title track of their 1977 album Love Gun."

Mott The Hoople

"They have just announced dates for the UK next April. They are Mott The Hoople but there that's the Mark I version if you like from 1973 the big hit single Honaloochie Boogie from the album Mott. The version going out on tour is the Mark II version if you like which is Ian Hunter, Ariel Bender, Morgan Fisher and the rest of the band is made up of Ian Hunter's Rant band. Still, looking forward to seeing that."

Heavy Metal Kids

"Right then crisis, what crisis?. This is the Heavy Metal Kids."

"And before that the Heavy Metal Kids from the album Anvil Chorus. Great bit of work. The song Crisis."

UFO

"Two bands connected there by a) the fact that well they were both from London. But b) they both shared a keyboard player if you like. The name of the guy was Danny Peyronel. He was an Argentinian actually. Had a very distinctive sound as you can tell if you listen to those two records back to back. Which hopefully you just did!. That was UFO from their 1976 album No Heavy Petting with Highway Lady."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you god willing next week at exactly the same time. Hope you can join me so that we can do it again."

"Which is a great link into this last song. This from the album Word of Mouth is The Kinks. Until next week see ya!."
