DEF LEPPARD's VIVIAN CAMPBELL Says Band To Record Again At Abbey Road Studios

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell has said the band will revisit Abbey Road Studios to record during a new Diamond Star Halos interview.

'Diamond Star Halos' is the band's 12th studio album.

As announced on 17th March it will be released on Friday 27th May 2022.

Today marks exactly 14 years since Def Leppard went to Abbey Road Studios in London to film an appearance on the now defunct TV show 'Live From Abbey Road'.

In a new band interview with Power Play Magazine (with Joe and Sav) the interviewer also mentions an interesting brief meeting in a hotel corridor with Vivian.

According to him Vivian told him the band would also be making "new recordings" at Abbey Road studios in addition to Sav telling him they were about to head North to film their movie performance.

The audio from the 2008 TV appearance was later remixed and released for Record Store Day 2018 as the 'Live At Abbey Road' 12 inch vinyl.

As for the exact nature of this 'recording', that is unclear as the TV show no longer exists and 'new recordings' doesn't seem like a TV or Radio taping.

The recording of new music seems unlikely as well given the new album is about to be released and was already heard by the interviewer at the time Vivian spoke to him.

It seems 'possible' that this studio session took place in early March around the same time as the video shoots and the 'The Bank Of Dave' film shoot (which took place on 5th March).

Further information/announcements might be forthcoming in and around the album release.

Although unlikely for Def Leppard (you would think), U2 filmed a TV special called U2 At the BBC at the studios in December 2017 for BBC TV to mark their new album 'Songs of Experience'.

Shown on BBC 1 TV it featured the band performing new songs and classics with the aid of an orchestra.

Given the new album has some songs with strings that 'might' give an indication of at least part of any performance.

There doesn't appear to be any obvious TV or Radio show taping or filming at the studios on air right now though. It's also possible of course Vivian let slip about something that did not happen in the end. We will see.

Vivian does have form in this area, telling fans on FB in August 2012 that they were going to do an album residency and heavily hinting it would be for Hysteria before the main announcement came in November.

Live From Abbey Road 2008

The first session at the studio took place on 6th May 2008 with three songs performed, 'Rock On', 'C'mon C'mon' and 'Rocket'.
