Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Now, David Bowie may have had five years. I have got one hour, 60 minutes to play you some, in my humble opinion, wonderful music. So as we say goodbye to them, as a live band and we welcome their avatars. Here they are on record. This is Kiss."

KISS

"Yes, it's going to be interesting to see this new generation of Kiss. It's not them. It's their avatars. It's holograms or something like that. I'm not really sure how it's going to work. I guess something similar to the show that ABBA have got running in London that I have heard from people that I know that have seen it is actually quite stunning. So maybe there is life after death, if you like, for a band that are still alive yet don't want to tour anymore. And who can blame them? It's been a while since 1973 and putting that slap on every night must be kind of wearing thin after a while. But God bless them. They've entertained us for a long time and they're from what I consider the best record they ever made in 1976. The album is Destroyer. We just heard Kiss. It's actually the 2012 remix of the song Shout It Out Loud."

Manraze

"Now as we all know, this is not a request show, but I am going to acknowledge a couple of birthdays. Just a few days ago it was Rick Savage's birthday. Yesterday was Phil Collens' birthday, so I'm going to play a couple of songs that they both sing lead vocal on, starting off with Manraze."

"We started that little segment off with Manraze, one of two side projects that Phil has. Their second album Surreal, the song we heard Halo, which features some fantastic distorted bass from one Mr. Simon Laffy, who of course played with Phil in Girl."

Def Leppard

"Yes, very happy birthday indeed to a couple of my fellow Leps. It was Sav's on the second and it was Phil's on the eighth, so I thought I'd celebrate and play a couple of songs that they sang lead vocal on.

"That was followed by, well it's credited to Def Leppard, but it's actually Sav plays every single instrument himself on his take of a song called Dear Friends, which originally featured on Queen's Sheer Heart Attack album back in 1974. So happy birthday guys, many, many more."

Mott

"Now if you follow Def Leppard on social media, you may well have seen Yours Truly and a few other good people slaughtering some absolutely wonderful songs in a karaoke bar in downtown Tokyo about four weeks ago."

"One of the people that joined us on that particular night was Morgan Fisher, who was once the keyboard player in Love Affair, who had that huge hit Everlasting Love back in 1968. Six years later, he would be a member of Mott The Hoople and then a member of Mott and then a member of British Lions. But there we just heard his wonderful tinkling talent on the Joanna from the 1976 Mott album Shouting and Pointing on a song called Two Shot Arms Brackets I Don't Care."

"And before that we heard Mick Ronson from his second solo album back in 1975. The album is Play Don't Worry. The song is a huge hit that never was but should have been Billy Porter."

Roxy Music

"Right, sticking with 1975 for just a few minutes longer, this is Roxy Music."

"And before that, Killers Star from Roxy Music from 1975 from one of my favourite albums that they ever made. The album is Siren, the song we heard, Whirlwind."

KillerStar

"Now I find this very interesting indeed. This is brand new music from a band called KillerStar. Now some of the musicians that feature on this album are the likes of Gail Ann Dorsey on bass, Earl Slick on guitar, Emm Gryner on backing vocals."

"Now if those names sound familiar, the Emm Gryner name may be familiar to Leppard fans because she just played piano and duetted with me on the Drastic Symphonies version of Poor Some Sugar On Me."

"But the three of them of course have been associated with David Bowie for years. And in fact what's really cool about this song we just heard is there's a nice little kind of tribute if you like to Bowie because some of the backing vocals are lifted straight off his song Absolute Beginners. I'm really looking forward to the album which comes out next year but for now we just heard the song Should Have Known Better."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up we're going to pay tribute to the founding member of both the Moody Blues and Wings."

Paul McCartney

"And before that we heard Wings from the album Red Rose Speedway and what an album it is, a fantastic bit of work called Little Lamb Dragonfly, Rock in Peace, Denny Lane."

Wings

"Yes, that pesky Grim Reaper has been around once again and taken another one of our own off to the great gig in the sky."

"This time it's Denny Lane, a founding member of both Wings and the Moody Blues. So I thought I'd play a couple of tracks, actually they're both Wings performances but one of them is a Moody Blues song."

"Taken from the Wings Over America live album that is Go Now which was the first ever hitfor the Moody Blues, sung by Denny Lane a long time actually before Justin Hayward joined the band."

The Adverts

"Right then, it's time to cross the Red Sea with The Adverts."

"And before that The Adverts from the album Crossing the Red Sea with the adverts, we heard Gary Gilmore's Eyes."

The Strangler's

"Now there's a couple of songs that would fit in very nicely at 11pm on Christmas Day when Planet Rock runs a show called Planet Punk and I for one will be tuning in. We just heard The Stranglers from the album Ratus Nivegicus with a wonderful bit of work called Get a Grip on Yourself."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week, it's been a real pleasure as always, you know that. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then let's go out with a band that influenced the UK punk rock scene three years before it kicked off, 1973 these guys were doing it all over New York but it was too much too soon. This is the New York Dolls and who are the Mystery Girls? Till next week, see ya!"
