Show Intro

"Evening all welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. I hope you're all as happy as I am. New album out yesterday. Diamond Star Halos finally sees the light of day. Welcome once again to Los Angeles where once again it's overcast, but I don't care 'cause life is sunny in Lepland. And that's all that matters right now. Now you know that I don't do this very often. I don't play a lot of Def Leppard on the show because I'm not here to self indulge. But this week we are making an exception. Gonna play you a few tracks from the new album. Sprinkled in amongst some other wonderful music. So let's get the show started with a brand new track from said album. This is Def Leppard."

Def Leppard

"Indeed. That is Def Leppard from Diamond Star Halos. A track called Gimme A Kiss That Rocks. Apologies if my voice sounds a little ragged this week. As you can imagine I'm doing so much promo and press and rehearsals. And we played our first show in two and a half years at the Whisky A Go Go on Thursday night to launch the album. And what great fun we've been having. I will struggle through this show. We have a couple of days off before we do full blown rehearsals with all the lasers and screens and lights. And then we've got a bit of a break before the tour starts on the 16th June in Atlanta, GA. Where am I going next. Let's go to a band that were a huge influence on Def Leppard in the early 70s. And mid 70s and late 70s. This is UFO."

UFO

"And before that UFO from the 1976 No Heavy Pettin' with the opening track of that album also Natural Thing."

AC/DC

"I can't get my head around the fact that that album is 14 years old. What a comeback it was too for AC/DC. The album is Black ice. The song the opening track Rock And Roll Train."

Def Leppard

"Now to give you a bit of a back story on this next song. You need to know the circumstances in which it was recorded. As you know the Def Leppard album Diamond Star Halos was recorded 100 percent remotely in three different countries. With time zones of 8 to 5 hours and distances of 6,000 miles to 3,000 miles. East Coast, West Coast, Sheffield and Dublin. Once we knew that the 2020 tour was off we decided we would just keep writing and Phil Collen said to me well I'e got this riff and he sent voer about a minute's worth of a riff which I suggested he jangled it so I could use that part as the verse. And we keep the heavy bit for the chorus, He did that sent it to me. Went to bed. I worked on it while he was asleep. I sent that to him. What I'd been working on. He worked on that while I was asleep. Two days later we had this."

And before that a song written over the phone. Over the internet in two days between myself and Phil Collen. Who was on West Coast time in California while I was in Dublin and we came up with this track for new album Diamond Star Halos. The song Open Your Eyes."

"You are listening to a very deep voiced Joe Elliott on Planet...sound like David Coverdale don't I?. it's the Joe Elliott Show on Planet Rock. Coming up another new track but this one features lon time David Bowie pianist Mike Garson ."

Elton John

"In my recent down time which has been quite sparse recently. I have been listening to a lot of Elton John. But not the usual fare. I've been listening to stuff lie Blue Moves and Rock Of The Westies. And this track just leaped out at me. I hadn't heard it for years and years. I thought this is a good one for Saturday. So I thought i'd give it a spin. It is from said album Rock Of The Westies. It is Elton John. Ths song is Billy Bones And The White Bird."

Def Leppard

"And before that again brand new Def Leppard from the album Diamond Star Halos. This time featuring Mike Garson. David Bowie's long time pianist. All the way back to 1973's Aladdin Sane. One of two tracks that he plays on. This one is Goodbye For Good This Time."

Be Bop Deluxe

"It's got to be one of my favourite Be Bop Deluxe songs of all time. It's such a beautiful piece of work. From the 1976 album Modern Music. It is Down On Terminal Street."

The Struts

"Well the Def Leppard album was recorded in Strange Days. And so was this. This is The Struts."

"Before that we heard The Struts. from their album also recorded in lockdown. hence the title Strange Days. A cover of the KISS classic but it's actually the Girl arrangement. You remember the band Girl that Phil was in before he joined Def Leppard. Well they covered this song but they did it a little differently to KISS. And this is the version that Luke and the boys wanted to do. It is Do You Love Me."

Cheap Trick

"Two classic power pop rock bands back to back there. That is Cheap Trick from an album called Bang Zoom Crazy Hello. The song is The Sun Never Sets. With a fantastic bass line from Mr. Tom Peterson on that particular song."

KISS

"And talking of KISS."

"And before that we heard KISS from the 2012 remixed and resurrected version of Destroyer. The song Sweet Pain."

Ghost

"There's quite a lot of mutual appreciation love going on between Ghost and Def leppard these days. And long may it last. From their latest album Impera which is a brilliant record. We just heard Spillways."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, all the way from Los Angeles in California, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. Even more so because the new album Diamond Star Halos was released yesterday. And we are just beyond excited at the fact that it's just finally out after sitting on it for about 18 months. We didn't wanna release it in 2021 in the middle of a pandemic. But we were happy to do it as one we hope is burning out and we can all move on a little bit."

"So until next week I shall leave you with one more brand new song from the album Diamond Star Halos. This is Def Leppard and SOS Emergency. Till next week see ya!."
