Show Intro

"Greetings one and all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you once again. What have I got lined up for you tonight. Well in my humble opinion sixty minutes of you know what. Starting off with the Scorpions."

Scorpions

"A long time before they became international superstars. I saw the Scorpions at the Sheffield Top Rank in front of about 120 people who all sat cross legged on the floor. It was a very strange experience indeed. But it was a great gig. It was what they called the Uli Jon Roth era. 1976. The song from that era we just heard Catch Your Train."

Billy Nicholls

"Now if you haven't picked up this month's edition of Mojo magazine I suggest you do so pretty quickly because inside said magazine is a fantastic free CD called Afterglow. It's basically all things Steve Marriott. Solo work, Humble Pie and of course The Small Faces. There's also a song by a gentleman called Billy Nicholls who I'd never heard of until I got this CD. I looked him up on Wikipedia and it seems that he's a guy from the '60s that occasionally worked with Pete Thownshend who seems to be a good friend of his. The song that's gonna follow the one I'm about to play is a Billy Nicholls song performed by one of the most unlikeliest bands you could think of to cover a song from a guy from the '60s. But to start us off here is Billy Nicholls from the Mojo CD Afterglow with one of his own tunes. This is great."

"And before that from the Mojo presents Afterglow rare and unreleased material by Steve Marriott. We heard Billy Nicholls himself singing Girl From New York."

The Babys

"Two songs back to back written by a gentleman named Billy Nicholls. We just heard from the album Head First The Babys. Yes doing a song called White Lightning."

The Small Faces

"Well after all that I think it's only fair that I play some actual Steve Marriott don't you. Also gonna follow it by the gentleman who joined the band after Steve Marriott left. I think you know where I'm going with hits. And for now here is The Small Faces."

"And before that taken from their Absolutely The Best compilation we heard The Small Faces with Tin Soldier.

Rod Stewart

"Absolutely magnificent stuff there from Rod Stewart who would replace Steve Marriott in The Small Faces. Of course they would drop The Small and just become The Faces. There from 51 years ago almost. 1970. Title track of the album Gasoline Alley."

"You are listening to The Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is time for a little break and when we come back, a royal visitation with Wishbone Ash."

Wishbone Ash

"And before that we heard Wishbone Ash. Fantastic stuff from arguably their most successful album Argus with The King Will Come."

Nuts

"I've been having a bit of a chinwag with my buddies over the last week or so and we have come to the decision that we can not remember who we saw that band open for. I swear. I absolutely swear that I saw them open for Budgie at the Sheffield City Hall in 1976. A friend of mine reckons we saw them open for someone else at the Top Rank. So all you people of a certain age that may have seen the same tour or even the same show in Sheffield. Please write and let me know which one of us has gone mad. The band are Nuts. I swear I saw them open for Budgie. The album Hard Nuts. The reason I remember this is because that song we just heard is the only song I remember. And I remember it because it's a Bob Dylan song. It is One More Cup Of Coffee (Valley Below)."

Cheap Trick

"Well one thing's for sure me and my bff's will not be arguing about this next band because we all love them. This is Cheap Trick."

"And before that Cheap Trick from the album The Latest. Which is no longer their latest album because a) it's 12 years old and b) they've had three albums out since and there's a new one coming out in April I do believe. But the song we just heard. Aptly enough seeing as we're stuck in lockdown, Sick Man Of Europe."

Foo Fighters

"Yes yes I know I confess I do not play them often enough. They are my favourite 21st century band. They really are. Consistently brilliant. They are the Foo Fighters there from an album called, ready for this, Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace. It is the Foos with The Pretender. The opening track. Great tune."

Dana Gillespie

"She has just released her autobiography. I know because I have a signed copy. She used to be part of David Bowie's entourage. She also covered a song written by David Bowie. Which we're about to hear. She is Dana Gillespie."

"And before that we heard Dana Gillespie. As I said she's just released her autobiography. Lots of great and saucy stuff in that book. It is the title track of her album from way back in the '70s. The Spiders From Mars played on that particular song. They got Woody, Trevor and Mick Ronson. It is a cover of Bowie's song originally on Hunky Dory 1971. The song Andy Warhol."

Jethro Tull

"That's actually titled Up The Pool (New Mix). Which is not accurate any more because I think it's ten years ago. The 40th anniversary special edition of Aqualung is at least ten years old. Which means we're almost due a 50th anniversary one. And if Ian Anderson's still got stuff in the vault get it out and I'll buy it because I bought the 40th, I bout the 25th. I bought the original vinyl back in 1970 was it when I was a mere ten years old. It is Tull, Jethro Tull. The album Aqualung. The song Up The Pool."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. But you know that already. This is such fun for me. Where else are you gonna go and hear the likes of the Scorpions and The Babys and Rod Stewart and Cheap Trick all in one hour. Well maybe somewhere. But definitely here. So stay tuned. Don't move that dial."

"See you next week. Same place, same time. Till then we came in on a train. We're gonna go out on a train. This is The Clash from the album London Calling and Train In Vain. Until next week see ya."
