Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you once again. I've got, in my humble opinion, about sixty minutes or so of wonderful music lined up for you tonight. Starting off with Van Halen."

Van Halen

"As I've said no doubt countless times, I saw those guys opening for Black Sabbath at the Sheffield City Hall back in 1978. And they were absolutely magnificent. Sadly it was the only time I ever saw them live. They were fantastic. They are Van Halen. And from the album Fair Warning we just heard Unchained."

Little Steven

"Now here's an artist I've also only ever seen once. And that was in his usual gig as playing guitar with The Boss. I did stand next to him once though in New York at an Iggy And The Stooges gig. Here with his Disciples Of Soul is Little Steven."

"before that we heard Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul. Who happened to be on bass guitar Adam Clayton from U2 and on drums Jason Bonham son of the late great John. The album is Born Again Savage. The song that we heard Salvation."

Michael Monroe

"Now there's a not too tenuous connection between those last two artists. We just heard there Michael Monroe. Once of course of Hanoi Rocks. The album is I Live Too Fast Too Die Young. The song that we heard Can't Stop Falling Apart. Michael once recorded a song written by Little Steven called While You Were Looking At Me. Which I'd never heard until I performed it live on stage with Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson at Rock And Roll Heaven in Toronto back in 1988. Yes, I literally got up and sang it having never heard it before. Ian just kept saying 'Just keep singing While You Were Looking At Me' every time I look at ya. So I did. And then eventually I heard Michael's version on his debut album a couple of years later."

The Hives

"This next song that we're about to hear is definitely not about this radio station. This is The Hives."

"And before that we heard The Hives from their latest album The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons. The song surely not aimed at this particular station, it is Rigor Mortis Radio."

Cheap Trick

"Yes in my humble opinion, as you well know if you listen to my show often enough, one of the greatest bands of all time right there. That is Cheap Trick from the album Standing On The Edge with the wonderful bit of work called Tonight It's You."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming up, some classic Ian Hunter that features one of the greatest guitar solos of all time."

Ian Hunter

"And before that we heard Ian Hunter. And boy what a guitar solo by the late great Mick Ronson. It's from Ian's debut solo album back in 1975. The song is The Truth, The Whole Truth, Nuthin' But The Truth."

Mink DeVille

"Back in 1985 when Def Leppard were holed up in Wisseloord Studios in Holland for the best part of a year. It was a four studio complex. And one of the other bands that was in studio 2 as opposed to our studio 1 was the crowd that we just heard. We got t know them a bit and on one of their songs they said will you guys come in and do some backing vocals for us. Well not so much singing as just shouting two words. So yes that is Def Leppard that you can hear in the background of that particular song by Mink DeVille. It is from the album Sportin' life. The song is Italian Shoes."

Alice Cooper

"Now Def Leppard and Motley Crue just finished up seven shows in the USA. That was sort of an overspill from the 2022 tour. e just couldn't get them in. We didn't have Jaon Jett And The Blackhearts. We didn't have Poison on this particular leg of the tour. But we did have this next gentleman. And he was absolutely sensational. From his latest album this is the mighty Alice Cooper."

"And before that the mighty Alice Cooper who as I said opened for Def Leppard and Motley Crue on seven shows in the USA this last summer. Brand new album called Road. it's fantastic. Give it a listen. The song that we heard I'm Alice."

The Doobie Brothers

"I spent a coupe of weeks in the USA actually after that tour finished. Just tidying up some "business", as they like to say. And there's a TV channel over there that basically shows 24 hour Rock Docs. It's absolutely stunning. And you kind of end up watching documentaries about bands that you might not necessarily listen to every day. And you learn something and you grow to appreciate their work. I never didn't appreciate the work of The Doobie Brothers. But I wasn't aware of this album that came out in 2010. Thought I'd play you a track from it. The album is called World Gone Crazy. The song that we just heard Chateau."

Show Outro

"And on that note I shall say I'm Joe Elliott. And that my dear friends is about it for this particular week. Been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time..

"So until then I shall play you this. And dedicate it to the maybe 20 people listening that could have been at the Sheffield Top Rank in 1976. At the Improvisions rock club when I first heard this song. You may well have been there too. This from their debut album back in 1973 is Rush and Finding My Way. Until next week see ya!."
