Show Intro

"Greetings everyone and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week it's coming to you all the way from Omaha in Nebraska. On what is a very welcome. But hey listen I have something else to tell you. 12 years I have been doing this show and you know what they've finally gone and done. They've gone and given me my own channel that's all. Joe Elliott This Is How I Roll. You can actually access it by going to the website or clicking on the App. And you can hear this kind of music that I play for you every Saturday and Tuesday all day everyday. How cool is that?."

"Now what have we got lined up for these next sixty minutes?. Well as I like to say bit of this bit of that. Starting off with Utopia."

Utopia

"Absolutely stunning stuff. Superb, epic, classic. Class. I'm running out of superlatives to describe that tune. Absolutely love that. The opening track of Utopia's 1977 album Ra. It is Overture, Mountain Top And Sunrise/Communion With The Sun."

Bonham

"And talking of epic. With a total disregard of time keeping. This is Bonham."

"And before that we heard Bonham. Featuring of course Jason Bonham soon the late great John. Who was of course with Robert in Led Zeppelin. This is Bonham Junior though. Their debut album as a band in 1989 I believe it was. Produced by Bob Ezrin. The album is called The Disregard Of Time Keeping. And the singer Daniel MacMaster I believe his name was. Was an uncanny resemblance to an early Robert Plant. The song that we heard Wait For You."

Robert Plant

"From his superb 199 album Fate Of Nations that is Robert Plant with a song called Calling To You. Which would actually get a live run out a few tears later when Page And Plant reunited just after they recorded the Unleaded album."

Sensational Alex Harvey Band

"So having just heard a couple of Zepplin-eque powerhouse tunes. Here's a couple of massively theatrical songs. And both instrumental to boot. Starting off with the Sensational Alex Harvey Band."

"And before that we heard a song that goes back, get this, 90 years. Yes 1933 it was written by a gentleman called Max Steiner. For the original King Kong film, the one that featured Fay Wray. 90 years. In fact the version that we just heard dates back 46. It features on the 1977 album Rock Drill. it is the Sensational Alex Harvey Band with the title or theme tune if you like to the classic movie King Kong."

Def Leppard

"So when we decided to start working on the album which would eventually be called Drastic Symphonies. Where we would take some of our older songs and reimagine them with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Our hopes and dreams were to get them to sound like they could've and should've been in a James Bond movie. Specifically some mad crazy car chase. Well I think we really achieved it with the song that we just heard. It originally featured on the 1981 album High 'n' Dry. But that is the Drastic Symphonies version of Switch 625."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week coming to you all the way from Omaha in Nebraska. Coming up, a powerful message of brotherly love from Pat Travers."

Pat Travers

"And before that we heard Pat Travers from 1977. Featuring a very young Nicko McBrain on the drums. Having just left Street Walkers. And at least two or three more years before he joined Iron Maiden and became their powerhouse drummer. I just read recently that Nicko posted online that he's not been very well. Apparently he had a stroke earlier in the year. But I can tell you this much. I saw Nicko about four or five weeks ago in Prague and he was in rude health. So may he keep on improving and doing what he does best behind the kit in Iron Maiden. But there we just heard him back in 1977 on Pat Travers second solo album Makin' Magic. With a wonderful bit of work called Stevie."

The Band

"Sad to read earlier this week about the passing of Robbie Robertson at the grand old age of 80. Robbie Robertson was the guitar played for Bob Dylan back in 1866 when he played the Manchester Free Trade Hall somebody in the audience shouted Judas! because Dylan had gone electric. That's how long Robbie Robertson has been around. Now he made a solo comeback in the 80s with an album that featured a hit single called Somewhere Down the Crazy River. Produced by Daniel Lanois. So because of that connection the album features the likes of Peter Gabriel and U2. But we just went all the way to The Band's second album in 1970. The first song that I ever by that group when I was about ten years old. The song is Rag Mama Rag. So rest in peace Robbie Robertson."

The Beatles

"So off we go into the rock and roll Tardis from the 70s and back to the swinging sixties for a couple of tunes. Starting off with the Fab Four."

"And before that we heard The Beatles from The White Album. It's the 2018 deluxe version featuring the Giles Martin remix. Of a wonderful bit of work called Glass Onion."

The Kinks

"So when I was back home during the break this summer. There was an evening of The Kinks on one of the channels. And I recorded them all and watched them over the next week or two. And it was fascinating to follow the career. And specifically of Ray Davies. What a fantastic songwriter. And that song that we just heard came up in one of the documentaries and I hadn't heard it in so long. So I thought I've got to give that one a bit of a run out soon. So here we are. And sadly as I choose that song I also got the notice that John Gosling the keyboard player who joined The Kinks just as they were doing the sessions for Lola I believe it was. Passed away at the age of 75. But this is going back a few years before John Gosling joined. it's taken from a box set called the Picture Book. The song is See My Friends."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, all the way from Omaha in Nebraska, is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure as always. Just wanna say one more time that you can now access The Joe Elliott Show as This Is How I Roll anytime you like. If you like what I play. You can listen all day. It's Planet Rock premium. You can access it on the app or one the website. Or you can tune into The Joe Elliott Show every Saturday and every Tuesday. .

"So until next week, which shall be coming to you a secret location as we will have finished, I shall leave you with this. From the final album by Montrose. Not Sammy Hagar but featuring the equally great vocals of Mr. Bob James. This is the title track of the album Jump On It. Until next week see ya!."
