DEF LEPPARD Perform PSSOM/HYSTERIA/Life On Mars For BBC PIANO ROOM (Audio/Video)

Def Leppard 2023

Def Leppard performed Drastic Symphonies versions of PSSOM and Hysteria plus a cover of Life On Mars for BBC Radio 2's Piano Room with audio/video now available.

The new album Drastic Symphonies will be released on Friday 19th May.

The album will feature 16 classic Def Leppard songs reworked and reimagined with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London.

The first single 'Animal' was released to digital and streaming services on the same day as the announcement followed by 'Hysteria' on 5th May.

The World Tour 2023 started in Mexico City on 18th February 2023.

The UK/European leg begins in the band's home city of Sheffield on 22nd May.

Drastic Symphonies Live Debuts

The Piano Room broadcast was aired during the Vernon Kay Show on BBC Radio 2 earlier today.

It featured the already confirmed three song performances and an interview with host Vernon Kay,

'Pour Some Sugar On Me' and 'Hysteria' from 'Drastic Symphonies' made their new live debuts in the new symphonic style.

First Show With An Orchestra

The show recorded at Maida Vale studios in London saw the band performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

The first time the band have performed with a string section or an orchestra.

Emm Gryner Guest Appearance

Emm Gryner made a guest appearance on piano for all three tracks and on piano and co-lead vocals for PSSOM.

David Bowie Life On Mars

The David Bowie cover song has been revealed to be the classic 'Life On Mars'.

New show links have also been added and updated with the premiere during Vernon Kay's show between 9:30am to 12pm on Thursday 18th May.

And as you can see a photo of Joe has been posted.

The band's first ever performances with an orchestra saw the 'Drastic Symphonies' versions given their live debuts.

The first time the new "cover of a cover" / Emm Gryner version has been played by the band with Emm herself appearing as a guest on co-lead vocals and piano.

The song played exactly as Emm's 2001 version with Joe and her singing a full co-lead vocal duet. No drums on this one but plenty of strings and some guitars including a solo by Phil.

'Hysteria' was also performed in the 'Drastic Symphonies' style as heard on the single version now available to stream (and already released on the album in some parts of the world).

Unlike the studio version it had more live guitars - basically the normal live version but with strings and piano by Emm.

It also included the now familiar extended outro with the "Can you feel it?" lines by Joe.

03 - Life On Mars (By David Bowie) - (Ft. Emm Gryner)

The second time Joe and Phil had covered this song afer the Cybernauts version in the late 90s.

This performance featured Emm Gryner as a guest on piano alongside PSSOM. This song was originally on the 'Hunky Dory' album which Joe said influenced his and Emm's still unfinished joint album.

The full band played on this song along with the orchestra.
