Def Leppard and Motley Crue have announced a venue change for the Glasgow show on The World Tour 2023.

Or rather it was quietly changed without any big fanfare as with the cancelled shows in Brazil.

The World Tour 2023 starts in Mexico City in February following two intimate shows in the USA.

The World Tour 2023 was first announced in October 2022 with the Glasgow show scheduled for Hampden Park on 6th July.

The show at Scotland's national stadium was to have been Def Leppard's first ever stadium show in Scotland.

It was recently moved to a new venue of Glasgow Green aka a big field/park area just 3 miles north of Hampden Park.

Rather than being a smaller venue this one like Hampden also holds up to 50,000 for concerts.

Motley Crue are still due to close this show and all tickets for Hampden Park are still valid.

Slow Ticket Sales?

With many sections of the tours biggest venue Wembley Stadium (90,000 capacity) still unsold it does appear ticket sales for this tour are somewhat slow.

At least compared to The Stadium Tour shows in the USA/Canada in 2022 which sold over 1.3 million tickets and saw most of the shows sold out within a few days/weeks of going on sale.

Venue Change Reason?

On the face of it changing to a venue which also holds 50,000 seems odd.

But if you consider the ticket sales at Wembley with the potential for sections to be unsold and sections possibly being curtained off, you can avoid this in a field venue.

Glasgow Green may old 50,000 but if you only get 20,000 or 30,000 in a field they are all up at the front and it looks basically the same.

Of course without access to the tour sales numbers this is pure speculation.

It also has to be said that the ticket prices may have also had some impact on the sales.

Thursday, 6th July, 2023 Glasgow, Scotland @ Glasgow Green - (MC Closing) - NEW VENUE

The first time at this venue which has a show capacity of 50,000.

First show in this city since December 2018.

The first UK tour venue change since October 2003 in Bradford, England.

Three outdoor field shows will now be played in Lytham, Dublin and Glasgow on the UK tour leg alongside the two stadium shows in Sheffield and London.
