DEF LEPPARD's JOE ELLIOTT Comments On Wet Start To THE STADIUM TOUR 2022

Def Leppard 2022. Def Leppard 2022

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott has commented on the wet start to The Stadium Tour on his recent Planet Rock radio shows.

The Stadium Tour has now visited 6 different cities and will stop in a 7th city later tonight.

Joe commented on the wet start to the tour on his last two Planet Rock radio shows.

He and other members of the band have also commented on the tour in the first three Video Log posted on YouTube.

Fortunately the wet start at the first four shows was replaced with sunshine in New York and Philadelphia.

Joe Elliott - June 2022 Video Quotes

Atlanta

"We have just kinda finished the wettest gig we have done since Mannheim in 1986. It rained all night long."

"But the crowd stuck with us. Nobody left. Nobody moaned. At one down 35 to go and next up Miami but Atlanta, Georgia thank you. Fantastic."

Phil - "Just got off stage. First gig, stadium gig in god knows how long. Three years or whatever it is. Amazing. Everything that could have gone wrong did. We had like a hurricane, storm whatever that was coming through and just drenched. The drums went off at one point. We carried on like nothing had happened. We played the new songs and they were great. They just just slotted straight in like any of the classics."

"Everybody that was there tonight thank you for staying with us right to the end of the gig because is was insanely wet. And fair play to everybody that stayed. So we'll do this again next time."

Miami

"Not raining at the moment but apparently there's a 99 percent chance it's gonna rain again. So this is becoming Def Leppard's second ever Drought Relief tour."

"We had one in 1988 where 14 shows thast we did 12 of them it rained. They were all outdoors. Tonight hopefully it won't. But it's Florida who knows."

"We just came off stage. As you can see it was a sweaty one. Today is Paul McCartney's 80th birthday. So I took it upon myself to try and play I've Just Seen A Face by The Beatles. And I completely ballsed it up. Couldn't remember the words. Forgot the chords. I wouldn't have passed the audition for America's Got Talent out it that way. But I did get the entire audience to sing Happy Birthday to Sir Paul McCartney. ."

"Which is very special because hopefully with a bit of luck he might see it on Youtube or something like that. And he'll know that we're thinking about him 'cause he's a big part of our lives."

"We had a hold up today because there was a classic Floridian storm. Which means we had to clear the stage while they were still building it. Which meant everything was delayed. So we were supposed to go on stage at half past nine and we went on stage at 10."

"It was incredibly humid and really difficult to do a gig. it's like running through treacle. ."

Washington D.C.

"We are here. And guess what so is the weather. Yep it's gonna rain again apparently."

Phil - "Rain, thunderstorms, lightning all of that stuff and they called it 'cause it was too dangerous to play. We got to Sugar so there you og. It's kind of like the end of the set anyway."

Sav - "Man that was a storm. Ten minutes from the end. Well before Sugar the heavens just opened. We managed to get through the end of Sugar but then we were told we had to leave the stage."

"It rained again. So much so that just as we finished Sugar I got a message in my ears get off. There's a storm actually right over the stadium. And it's lightning. And I have to say this tonight. When we did the acoustic section the response to This Guitar by the audience here in Washington was absolutely phenomenal."

"So thank you all those guys. See you in New York."

The Joe Elliott Show - 18th June 2022 Quotes

"And have we got a different show for you tonight because you may be able to hear a little background noise. That is because I am currently travelling at somewhere between 65 and 70 miles an hour on the bus all the way from Atlanta, Georgia to Miami in Florida. As you're listening to this I'm in Miami. It's a very different show. Bit of a rumble underneath me. That's the engine. And the music tonight is all tied in with travel and motors and cars and bikes and trucks, locomotives. It's a very road show. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 wheels doesn't matter. We have some fantastic music lined up. Including this one. It is Def Leppard. But it's not new. This is one of the first things that we ever recorded back in 1978."

Def Leppard

"Yes as I speak to you right now it is currently 2:30am on Friday morning. As I said on my way to Miami in Florida. We just came off stage about three hours ago in Atlanta. It absolutely bucketed it down with rain. You've never seen anything like it. Actually we have. We saw this similar kind of rain in Mannheim in '86 and at the Narara Festival in Australia in 1984. But my goodness the crowd were absolutely drowned. The band were absolutely drowned. It was blowing in so far it blew onto Rick's kit. And it actually cut out for about ten seconds. It really was quite spectacular. There was lightning and thunder. It wasn't really dangerous but it was definitely spectacular. And a very bizarre way to open a tour. One down 35 to go. It can only get a little easier from this moment onwards. But what a great way to start the tour."

The Joe Elliott Show - 25th June 2022 Quotes

"No throbbing of engines this week folks. Just the gentle hum of a generator as I sit in the same chair as I did last week. But I'm parked up engines off in the car park at the stadium in Philadelphia. Now this time last week I was travelling at 75 miles an hour as we legged it out of Atlanta on our way to Miami. Now in Atlanta if you've seen any of the pictures on social media. it absolutely lashed it down and we were just all drenched. When we got to Miami it wasn't so bad."

"The following night in Orlando it was exactly the same as Atlanta. And when we got to Washington D.C. it rained so hard that we had to cut our set. There were representatives on the side of the stage from the police, from the building, from the council saying please get off. Right above your head there's lightning storm. And as we all know human beings, wet human beings or a wet stage with electrical equipment and lightning is a great recipe for disaster. So off we went. The storm did eventually pass which allowed Motley Crue to play a bit of a truncated show. But there you go folks. It is the 2022 Drought Relief Tour. 3 out of 4 it has rained. It can only get better from here on in."
