DEF LEPPPARD In COLUMBUS, OH On THE WORLD TOUR 2023 (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played another show on The World Tour 2023 last night in Columbus, OH with 17 songs performed.

The show took place at the 102,780 capacity Ohio Stadium.

The first show in this city since August 2018.

The first appearance at this venue.

And quite a big venue!.

Back In Ohio

The first show in the state of Ohio since playing in Cincinnati and Cleveland in July 2022 during The Stadium Tour.

And suitably playing Ohio State University at the "OHIO" Stadium which is also nicknamed the Horseshoe.

The second of the 6 World Tour shows to be played in August alongside the solo date in Sturgis.

Not the first stadium show in Columbus (see below).

Historic Stadium

Historic for being one of the largest stadiums in the USA with a capacity of 102,780 for sports events.

In fact setting an attendance record of 110,045 in November 2016.

The third largest stadium in the USA and one of eight that hold over 100,000 fans.

And fifth largest stadium in the world.

Sadly the top tier of seats around the stadium was not used and so the attendance was probably a lot less than the 60,000 or so it usually holds for concerts including a 2018 show by Taylor Swift.

The floor section and lower looked pretty full though with perhaps as much as 30-40,000 fans.

Rocking In Daylight

In a throwback to The Stadium Tour of last summer the band were back in the early evening slot and playing in bright sunshine.

Fortunately none of the rain of the first ten shows of that tour.

The venue may not have been as full as it could have been but the floor and first tier were loud and into the show from the first song onwards.

Unfortunately not a lot of footage was broadcast online but another triumphant stadium show was played.

The 38th in 2022/2023 with Motley Crue in the USA and Canada with three more to come to end this run soon in Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.

Ahead of an expected announcement of many more in 2024 (which, you would think, won't see them booked into 90-100,000 capacity venues again).

17 Song Setlist

The same 17 song setlist played once more.

All three 'Diamond Star Halos' songs played in Columbus for the first time.

The 'Drift Away' snippet and sing-along was again played before 'This Guitar' after its successful debut in Syracuse.

Columbus History

The first visit was in September 1981 at the Franklin County Veterans Memorial Auditorium with Blackfoot.

They returned in June 1983 on the Pyromania tour at Ohio Center.

Ten years later an outdoor show took place at Cooper Stadium in August 1993 during the Adrenalize tour which was their first stadium show in the city.

A Slang tour show then took place in July 1996 at Polaris Amphitheatre.

They returned to the same venue in July 2000 on the Euphoria tour.

The Vale City Arena was then first played in June 2003 on the X/Ten tour followed the next night by a free show at Nationwide Arena for Honda employees.

That arena was played again in October 2005 on the Rock Of Ages tour with Cheap Trick and Ricky Warwick.

The Germain Amphitheater was played in September 2006 with Journey on the YEAH! tour.

Germain Amphitheater was played for a second time in July 2007 during the Downstage Thrust tour.

They returned to Value City Arena for the last show here in October 2015.

Last night's show was the 13th overall performance in Columbus.

The next Def Leppard show takes place in Sturgis, SD on 10th August.
