DEF LEPPARD Celebrate VIVIAN CAMPBELL's 60th In GLENDALE On THE STADIUM TOUR (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard played show number 29 of The Stadium Tour in Glendale/Phoenix, AZ last night with 17 songs performed.

The show took place at the 63,400 capacity State Farm Stadium.

The first visit to Glendale by the band.

The first visit to the Phoenix area since playing in Phoenix in September 2018 on the Journey co-headline tour.

The 20th show by the band in the Phoenix area and first time at this venue.

Glendale is 18 miles to the North West of the city of Phoenix.

The first visit to Phoenix took place in June 1980 at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum on their debut American tour.

The largest previous audience played to in this area was up to 100,000 fans at the Phoenix International Raceway in November 2002 when the band played a short set before a NASCAR race as part of the 'X/Ten' album promo.

Show #29 - Glendale or Phoenix?

Well since the venue is not actually in Phoenix and 18 miles away, of course, the video screen people went with...Phoenix.

As they did on the show poster. Which of course means the Arlington show was actually in Dallas...

And also means I'm not changing this show report which was prepared in advance and will still say GLENDALE.

Joe couldn't decide on stage either going with "How about you Arizona?!" during 'Hysteria'.

Anyway...another packed show of well over 50,000 fans in the high tech State Farm Stadium which looks like a spaceship has landed from outside.

Recent shows by other acts have had up to 52,000 fans in attendance and Sav (see IG post below) has confirmed this show had the biggest audience of the tour so far.

The movable NFL pitch was moved outside the stadium for this show and can be slid back in for games.

No changes once more and the familiar set was played.

Closing a show for the second date in a row for the first time on this tour.

Something which will be repeated again soon as the rescheduling of dates from 2020 and 2021 mean many of the closing spots already agreed upon are now being played together.

With Motley Crue obviously closing in Los Angeles before they close two times in a row in Canada next week.

Happy Birthday Vivian Campbell

Vivian's birthday moment came not before his usual 'Armageddon It' introduction but later before 'This Guitar'.

And somewhat awkwardly after Rick had started the drum beat intro meaning the tempo for the sing-a-long was a little off.

But the crowd sang Happy Birthday and Joe remarked on him being been in he band now for "half of his life" having joined just a few months before his 30th birthday in early 1992.

He would go on to celebrate his 30th and 31st birthdays during the Adrenalize world tour in 1992 and 1993.

Watch the video below (from 16 mins in) and read Joe's full speech.

Indoor Show

Another show played under a retractable roof which was again closed.

The stadium also has an NFL pitch which can be moved in and out of the venue and is always moved outside for concerts.

The roof is transparent like the one played under at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
