DEF LEPPPARD Back In BOGOTA On THE WORLD TOUR 2023 (Show Report/Setlist)

Def Leppard and Motley Crue played a show on The World Tour 2023 last night in Bogota, Colombia with 15 songs performed.

The show took place at the 100,000 capacity Parque Simon Bolivar.

The third show of The World Tour 2023 which was a bit more eventful than planned.

The second time at this venue and in this country.

High 'n' Dry In Colombia

High Altitude - Dry weather.

High as in 2,640m/8,660 feet above seal level. And as Joe found out on Friday night once the 'Def Crue' plane had landed this can lead to problems.

As has now been explained by the man himself Joe suffered from a "moderate to severe" case of altitude sickness which resulted in a hospital visit.

The Marly Clinic hospital thankfully sorted Joe out and he was given the go ahead for the show.

Unfortunately the local press picked up on the visit and rumours of a potential cancellation spread the next morning/afternoon.

This forced the band and promoters to issue a statement that the show would indeed be going ahead as planned.

Joe Video Message

A couple of hours later, after they saw the stories still spreading online, Joe filmed a short 'Captain's Log' video.

In it he explained the situation and that he was fine and well enough to perform.

Watch the video again below and Rick's pre-show message in which he referenced the 'thin air'.

Band Bounce Back

Would the pre-show 'Hysteria' affect the show?.

Judging by the usual strong opening of 'Take What You Want', 'Let's Get Rocked' and 'Animal' - the answer was No!.

Mr. Elliott was in fine voice and showing absolutely no signs of the altitude sickness that had plagued him the night before.

A huge crowd had gathered on the massive Plaza de Eventos within the Parque Simon Bolivar to witness Def Leppard rock.

And as Rick says - there was rock!.

Shorter Setlist

'Foolin'' was cut from the set presumably to ease the strain on Joe's voice with 'Armageddon It' played as song #4.

'Promises' was also left out of its usual slot after 'Love Bites'.

Joe Thanks Hospital

As the show continued Joe took the time before 'This Guitar' to thank the Marly Clinic staff for helping him out.

It seems, although Joe and the band may have had a bit of a scare and discomfort, everything has worked out well.

The rest of the South American shows shouldn't cause any issues in terms of altitude.

Santiago, Chile and Sao Paulo, Brazil are 570m and 760m above sea level.

Both much higher up than the other shows but not as high up as Bogota so there shouldn't be any more problems for Joe (or anyone else).

Back In Bogota

The first show in this city took place on 12th April 1997 on the Slang tour.

Their first show in Colombia. A return after 26 years. One of the longest gaps between shows for any city/country.

That show was played for a crowd of 20,000 but there was significantly more people there last night.

The next Def Leppard show takes place on 28th February in Lima, Peru - (only 161m above sea level so no altitude sickness there!).
