Def Leppard 2019. By Chele Drappel

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott has been interviewed alongside Nikki Sixx to promote the 2020 Stadium Tour.

Joe spoke to Loudersound alongside Nikki to promote The Stadium Tour.

Joe and Nikki talked about The Stadium Tour, 1983 Pyromania tour show, Rick Allen's accident/Motley Crue car crash, the '80s era, MTV, the '90s era, difference between their bands, band friendship/rivalry, a new Def Leppard book, what makes them successful and PSSOM.

The Stadium Tour 2020

Joe said he and Nikki were the ones who started the idea of the two bands touring together.

Joe appeared on the show in December 2017, and also in 2014/2011.

Rick Allen's Accident

Nikki Sixx said he thinks Rick Allen's comeback to playing drums is one of the most "amazing stories ever".

Joe recalled how he found out about the accident and how quickly REick came back to playing drums.

1983 Pyromania Tour Footage

Joe mentioned the tour footage shot at Jack Murphy Stadium in September 1983. Footage that might be included in the band's new 2020 Vision series of releases.

Loudersound - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

The Stadium Tour 2020 Idea

Joe Elliott - "Nikki and I were the big players in that decision. We discussed the idea when I was a guest on Nikki’s radio show a year ago."

Rick Allen's Accident

Joe Elliott - "I remember the phone call from our manager Peter Mensch. He said: “Are you sitting down?”. And having seen enough movies, I knew that you don’t say that unless somebody has died. But when he said: “Your drummer’s had a car crash and he’s lost his arm”, there’s no way for you to process that information."

Nikki Sixx - "To me, that’s one of the most amazing stories ever. The fact that Rick said: “I’ve lost my arm but this is my band and I’m gonna play drums again”. And the band did exactly what a family would do."

Pyromania Tour Footage

Joe Elliott - "We’d gone from opening for Billy Squier to headlining Jack Murphy Stadium, which holds 55,000 people. The support acts were Uriah Heep and Eddie Money and this young band called Motley Crue. On that tour I bought my first ever video camera, and I filmed from the side of the stage when the Crue were playing Looks That Kill. I’ve transferred it to DVD now – I must give you a copy, Nikki."
