Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott was recently interviewed by Indiana Radio about the new Down 'n' Outz album This Is How We Roll.

Joe spoke to Stuck And Gunner to promote the new Down 'n' Outz This Is How We Roll album.

Down 'n' Outz This Is How We Roll Album

"Those songs are why the Down 'n' Outz exist. When we were asked to open for Mott when they reformed in 2009 I said literally what am I gonna do? I'm not gonna play Def Leppard songs opening for Mott The Hoople. So I went into their kind of back catalogue .of real kind of obscure deep stuff that was what they did after they split up. "

"So you know Ian Hunter's solo stuff, Mott carried on under the name of Mott with a different singer. They kind of morphed into another band called British Lions who had a couple of albums out. And they're the songs that I did when we opened for Mott The Hoople."

"But then with the second record we could really go deep into the Mott stuff. So we were doing like the album tracks like Marionette and Drivin' Sister. Not just the hits. And then when it came to the third album it's kind of inspired by them. But it's also inspired by anybody from the 70s. I didn't want to do a third covers album."

"So I specifically wrote songs of that nature on a piano. So there's a little bit of overlap with Mott. But there's also Elton John, Queen, Leon Russell. It's a little bit of Sparks. There's a lot of Bow ie involved. And they're all the influences that went into this third Down 'n' Outz album. But Mott's a big part of that."

"That's why this new Down 'n' Outz album sounds that way. I don't think there's a note on that record that sounds like it could've come after 1975. I wanted to make an instant classic rock album if you like."

"So would I. Live dates are a thing for the future. But for right now I'm just glad that we've finally got this record finished and it's out there. People can judge it for what it is."
