24 Years Ago DEF LEPPARD's VAULT Album At Number 3 In The UK
Def Leppard's Vault Greatest Hits album entered the UK album chart at Number 3 on this day in 1995.
The first greatest hits release by the band which became their fourth consecutive Top Ten album in the UK.
The album had been released on 23rd October 1995 in the UK/Ireland.
It debuted at Number 3 on 4th November 1995. The third UK Top 5 album for the band after 'Hysteria' in 1987 and 'Adrenalize' in 1992.
'Slang' became the fourth in 1996 when it also debuted at Number 3.
'Vault' remained inside the Top 10 for two more weeks at 5 and 9 and in all spent 16 weeks on the Top 100 chart. The first 12 weeks of which were spent inside the Top 40.
Earlier in the week on 1st November the album had been certified Silver (60,000), Gold (100,000) and Platinum for sales of over 300,000 copies in the UK.
On the same day the 'When Love & Hate Collide' single (which had reached Number Two in the charts) was certified Silver with 200,000 sales.
This meant the band had sold over 500,000 albums and singles in just over one month in the UK making it one of their most successful periods for sales in their homeland.
