Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you once again. What do we have lined up for ya tonight?. Well in my humble opinion sixty minutes of what I like to think of as magnificent music. You may have noticed over the last few weeks there's a theme sort of starting to occur in my shows. Last week we featured Mott The Hoople. A couple of weeks previous to that it was UFO. Tonight we shall be featuring Mick Ronson for it is 25 years this week since the Mick Ronson Memorial gig at the Hammersmith Odeon. It was the 30th April 1994. So there's gonna be a bit of Mick Ronson themed music peppered throughout the show. Starting off with this beauty by oe miss Ellen Foley."

Ellen Foley

"Mick Ronson played on that song. He co-produced it with his buddy Ian Hunter and it is from the 1979 debut album by Ellen Foley. The album is called Night Out. The song a cover of an old Rolling Stones classic Stupid Girl."

The Spiders From Mars

"So as mentioned at the top of the show we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Mick Ronson Memorial gig at the Hmmersmith Odeon. Which itself was one year to the day since the very sad passing of Mick Ronson. Here's a track from the actual show featuring a very embryonic Cybernauts billed on the night as The Spiders From Mars plus guests."

"And before that a song from the show itself, The Mick Ronson Memorial gig 30th April 1994 the Hammersmith Odeon. The Spiders From Mars plus guests which just happened to be Woody Woodmansey and Trevor Bolder the orignal rhythm section from The Spiders From Mars. Phil Lanzon on keyboards from Uriah Heep. Phil Collen on guitar and yours truly on lead vocals. It's a Lou Reed song which featured on Mick Ronson's second album Play Don't Worry. The Track is called White Light, White Heat."

Rich Kids

"That comes from an absolutely phenomenal box set that just came out called Harmony In My Head. Three CD collection of UK power pop and new wave from 1977 to 1981. In fairness there's some rubbish on there but there's some absolutely stuff including that one. The Mick Ronson produced debut single by the Rich Kids. Funnily enough called Rich Kids."

The Beatles

"Now back to back a couple of Mick Ronson's favourite ever bands and for those of us that knew him you can absolutely see why."

"And before that The Beatles. The 2009 mono remaster of It Won't Be Long which features on the album With The Beatles. Both songs big favourites of Ronno's. Why?. One word, melody."

Cheap Trick

"From the epic archive volume two. Originally a Record Store Day release that is Cheap Trick with the single version of the song World's Greatest Lover."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is time for a litttle break, and when we come back, we're gonna once again revisit The Mick Ronson Memorial gig."

The Spiders From Mars

"Wow what a lineup of folks on that particular tune. Who do we have there?. Well, on drums we've got Roger Taylor from Queen. On bass we've got Peter Noone. No not the Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits. This is Peter Noone the bass player from Roger's band The Cross. Simon Townshend on rhythm guitar brother of Pete of course. And Phil Collen on lead guitar. The undeniably distinctive vocals of Mr. Roger Daltrey and a lovely little cameo on the Eddie Cochrane tune Summertone Blues by one Mr. Ian Hunter. That was also from the Mick Ronson Memorial gig the cover of The Who's Baba O'Riley."

Barclay James Harvest

"OK se we'll revisit Ronno later on but for right now let's go and find out why everyone is everybody else. This is Barclay James Harvest."

"And before that from 1974 Barclay James Harvest. The album is Everyone Is Everybody Else. The song Crazy City."

Split Enz

"I won that album in a competition in one of the weekly rock mags back in I think it was 1976 and I've loved it ever since. It is essentially a compilation of early work released purely in New Zealand. It was brought over to the UK. Remixed by Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music and what a marvellous job he did. The band is Split Enz. The album Mental Notes. The song we heard Titus."

Chelsea

"Right as promised earlier in the show we're about to revisit that phenomenal compilation that is Harmony In my Head. This is UK power pop at it's very best. Starting off with Chelsea."

"And before that from the same compilation we heard the band Chelsea with Look At The Outside."

Buzzcocks

"A song originally released in the summer of 1979 and a song that is so infectious that they decided to name the entire compilation after it. That is the Buzzcocks and Harmony In My Head."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week on what has been a revisit of the Mick Ronson Memorial gig of 30th April 1994. 25 years ao this week. Wow, how time flies. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time for more of what I like to think is wonderful music."

"Until then I'm gonna leave you with this. I first heard this on a cassette bootleg from the Nottingham Rock City back in 1990. Imagine my joy when I saw that it had eventually been afforded an official release. This is an astonishing bit of work folks. Mick Ronson from the album Hard Life and the live version of Slaughter On Tenth Avenue. Until next week see ya!."
