The Metal Voice - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes (Transcribed by dltourhistory)

His Health Update/How's your health?

"You know like I said before we started here Jimmy, I'm tired today. I did another infusion yesterday. I do them, I'm supposed to do them every three or four weeks but given the touring schedule, particularly last year with Def Leppard. I had to push one. The longest I went was six or seven weeks in between. But you know I've been very fortunate thatI've found a treatment that works for me, Immunotherapy. It was part of a clinical trial for this new wonder drug almost four years ago."

"So I was part of this two years clinical trial with it and then it got FDA approved and it's workling for me and it's holding everything in place. So apparently nothing's changed you know, and there's minimal side effects other than like being really wiped out the day after and that's today. So you've got me at a low ebb, I'm sorry about that, but it's good, you know. Immunotherapy is a general tern given to a bunch of these new drugs you know that basically bolster the immune system in the body. So your body can fight cancer, you know, it's a lot better than chemo I'll tell you that."

"Well your results may vary. Maybe in other people it's shrinking the tumours. For me it seems to be holding things in place. So, you know, and my oncologist seems to be happy enough with that for now because like I say there's really minimal side effects of this. You know some people react to it differently I guess. I have a very robust constitution. I come out of these things and I have a beer and then just go to sleep so you know."

"It's working for me and I feel very very fortunate there's only about a third of the population who actually have been able to take this drug and get good results from it, 'cause it's predicated on you genetic make up. You have to have a certain genetic marker in order to be given this drug. Something called PDL1 which I happen to have apparently. So about a third of the population have this. It's quite remarkable it's the first drug they've given to people regardless of what your cancer is. As long as you have this PDL1 gene you'll respond to it. So if you have lung cancer or melanoma or in my case lymphoma they give you this and it's yielded good results so far. So it's amazing what they can do isn't it?."

Not Being Scared Of Death

"No. Jimmy I couldn't give a rat's arse. You know it is what it is. I consider myself very very fortunate to be able to have lived this long and have had a great life and I am not at all afraid of death no. Not that I think it's coming by any means. You know I'll probably live to be a hundred."

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame/Pete Willis To Attend?

"I really don't know. I mean I think Joe kind of put it out there in an interview, you know, that Pete's very welcome to come and join us. I hope he does, I really do genuinely. I only ever met Pete once many years ago very briefly. You know I don't know the guy at all but he was a very very important part of the legacy of the original Def Leppard and I think it'd be great if he shows up you know."

2019 Tour Setlist

"I have no idea, you know, I'm usually the last to know anything like that. Sav is our set master, meister!. He's the one who thinks it through. You know if it were up to me I think we'd be playing Billy's Got A Gun and Too Late For Love and stuff like that but I don't think it's gonna happen."
