Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Tonight coming to you from Prague in the Czech Republic where Def Leppard literally just a couple of hours ago touched down after last night's epic performance at Download. It was wet. It was cold. The audience all 85,000 of them stood in about two or three inches of mud. It is arctic in that area of the world right now for June. It's actually kinda scary how cold it was."

"But it didn't dampen the atmosphere one bit. The audience were absolutely phenomenal. If you were there thank you so much. For the benefit of all the listeners that aren't at Download this weekend it really was a magnificent sight. Stood on stage looking at all those people. Tonight's sixty minutes worth of music is mostly gonna cover Download. We're gonna start off with the band that kicked everything off at 1pm yesterday afternoon. I was fast asleep. Vivian Campbell was wide awake. This is Last In Line."

Last In Line

"I gotta be dead honest with everybody here I didn't see one second of any band yesterday because we didn't get there till 4:30. I flew out of Dublin at 6am. As soon as I got to the hotel I just went to bed. So I missed Vivian's set, but he tells me it went down really well. They did five originals and one DIO track and the song that we just heard there from the second Last In Line album is Year Of The Gun."

Tesla

"Another band I didn't see yesterday was this crowd, but we've toured with them so many times I'm sure they'll forgive me. This is Tesla.

"And before that Tesla from their brand new album Shock. I say brand new it's about six months old now. The track we heard, Phil Collen produced it, Tied To The Tracks."

Blackberry Smoke

"I love that. It came free in a magazine a couple of years ago. They were on stage mid afternoon yesterday. They are Blackberry Smoke. From a free CD basically called Physical Graffiti Redrawn that is their version of Led Zeppelin's The Rover."

Clutch

"And as we were backstage squelching through the mud in our very fashionable wellingtons we could hear the distant sound of this crowd. This is Clutch."

"And before that Clutch who make a hell of a sound. Title track of their album Earth Rocker."

Whitesnake

"That is Whitesnake. The latest album is Flesh And Blood. The song we just heard Shut Up And Kiss Me."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott Show on Planet Rock. Post Download, currently day off. Thank the lord. In Prague in the Czech Republic. It's time for a little break, when we come back, the magnificent sounds of Slash featuring the wonderful Myles Kennedy."

Slash

"And before that Slash featuring the incredible vocals of Myles Kennedy with a magnificent song called Starlight."

Thin Lizzy

"Side stepping the mud of Download for just a couple of minutes there. You may have read earlier this week that Philomena Lynott the Mum of the late great Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy passed away earlier this week in Dublin, Ireland at the grand old age of 88. She was a beautiful soul. A lovely lovely lady. Saw her many times at Thin Lizzy gigs over the years. Always came dolled up from head to toe in silk dresses and pearls. She was absolutely oozing class every time I saw the lady. So I thought it would be nice to play the song that Phil wrote about her. It's from the album Night Life the song is called Philomena. It is of course Thin Lizzy."

Stone Temple Pilots

"Right then back to the mud of Castle Donington. Download 2019. Here's a band possibly mid set. This is the Stone Temple Pilots."

"And before that from their latest album. The reincarnated Stone Temple Pilots with the Middle Of Nowhere."

KISS

"OK why are you playing KISS Mr. Elliott I hear you shout. As they weren't on at Download. Well they weren't no but they were on at the equivalent of Download in Helsinki in Finland. And I know that because we played the gig with them. So I thought I'd throw them into the show tonight. That is from the 1976 album Destroyer produced by one Mr. Bob Ezrin. The song we heard Shout It Out Loud."

Michael Monroe

"Talking of Finland this gentleman was due to come and visit and say hi. But his car broke down. So I'll just see him in Barcelona 'cause we're doing a gig together. This is Michael Monroe."

"And before that Michael Monroe born and bred in Finland. We played Helsinki. He was due to visit. Unfortunate automobile situation meant that he couldn't. But we will see him in Barcelona. You may have seen the video for that song on MTV many times. it features a very high kicking Axl Rose as a guest performer. The song Dead, Jail Or Rock And Roll."

Bon Jovi

"Just like KISS why Bon Jovi I hear you ask. Well no they didn't play Download, but we did do a gig together in a field in the middle of Denmark. It was the first time that we have played together since 1986. And it was literally a field in the middle of nowhere."

"Now you could argue that Download is just a field in the middle of England. But it's not really because it's right next to East Midlands airport. It's also for the weekend a mini city. It has infrastructure. Like toilets and shops where you can buy food. it has amusement arcades and rides and even accommodation albeit wet slimy and damp. But this field in Denmark was literally a field in Denmark. And it was also very damp. But two bands together, 35,000 people great time was had. That is Bon Jovi title track of his latest album This House Is Not For Sale."

Note to Joe - Actually you last played together in July 2005 at Live 8 in Philadelphia.

Show Outro

"And that my friends, all the way from Prague in the Czech Republic, a mere 19 hours after we finished our performance at Download, is about it for this week. Been a real pleasure as always. I finally got my breath back. What an amazing weekend this has been. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time from Hell Fest in France."

"Until then I'm gonna leave you with this. I have to play one Def Leppard song. And I'm gonna play a song that went down spectacularly well last night. And kind of not really expected 'cause it's not what you might call one of the cream of the crop. But it is from the biggest album that we ever made and the crowd really got into this one last night. From the VIVA! Hysteria soundtrack from 2013 this is Def Leppard and Excitable. Until next week see ya!."
