Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week it is coming to you all the way from Las Vegas in Nevada where Def Leppard are currently in residence at the Zappos Theater in Planet Hollywood. Tonight will be the third of twelve shows that we are performing here. Residencies are a big thing in this crazy city that is Las Vegas. There's a ton of bands in residency right now. there's some coming through pretty soon. Tonight I'm gonna be featuring a lot of bands that are either in residency or are about to or have done one in the past. Of course it all started off way back in '60s with the likes of the big four which would have been Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Liza Minelli. And the King Of Rock 'n' Roll himself. E.P."

Elvis Presley

"Yes that gentleman used to do two shows a night for seven nights a week. I think he played a total of close to 350 shows in this particular city. It is of course the King Of Rock 'n' Roll Mr. Elvis Presley. From one of his many best of collections with it's got the be the national anthem of Sin City Viva Las Vegas."

Aerosmith

"Right just to give you an example of the rockdom that is taking over in Las Vegas. Here's a couple of bands that have done a residency in the past and one of 'em that's in the middle of one right now. Starting off with Aerosmith."

"And before that Aerosmith. Absolutely one of my favourite American bands of all time. From the album Rocks we heard Back In The Saddle."

Motley Crue

"That is Motley Crue who were in residency in Las Vegas just a short while before they signed a contract in their own blood swearing that they would never play together on the same stage again. Well we'll see won't we. From the album Generation Swine. One of my favourite bits of work of Motley Crue as it happens. A song called Glitter."

Elton John

"Now here's a couple of guys that we absolutely have to call rock royalty. They've both done residencies in Las Vegas. But not just for a few weeks or a few months but for years and years and years. They love each other. They've been the best of friends since the 60s. And they love playing pranks on each other. Starting off with the Rocket Man himself. This is Elton John."

"And before that we heard Elton John from his classic double album as it was when it was vinyl Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 1973. The song Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting."

Rod Stewart

"Now some of our younger listeners, well at least a generation or so below me, may think that that song is a Stereophonics song. Well it was a huge hit for them there's no doubt about that. But in actual fact it is a cover of a Rod Stewart song. There taken from his collection Sing It Again Rod we just heard Rod The Mod with Handbags And Gladrags. I think it goes back to 1969 actually. ."

"Well it is Saturday Night and I hope that hasn't made you all feisty so let's just calm everything down a little bit and take a little break and when we come back we're gonna listen to some epic Meatloaf."

Meatloaf

"And before that we heard the title track of the 1977 album by Meatloaf. Produced by Todd Rundgren, written by Jim Steinman. The song is of course Bat Out Of Hell."

Santana ft. Chris Daughtry

"No your ear's are not deceiving you it is yes a Def Leppard song but no it is not Def Leppard. That is from 2010 and featuring Chris Daughtry and what a great job he did on it is Carlos Santana. Unbelievable that he actually chose to record a Def Leppard song. We were very flattered indeed."

Sex Pistols

"Now I play that because Meatloaf also did a residency in Las Vegas not so long back. And I started thinking while I was putting the show together what bands never did residencies here that would have been uber cool. And actually probably quite unbelievable. Try these two for starters."

"And then the Sex Pistols from the album Nevermind The Bollocks...Here's The Sex Pistols. One of the best rock albums ever made. With the National Anthem God Save The Queen."

The Clash

"Yes come on imagine along with me Joe Strummer and John Lydon or Johnny Rotten as he was at the time going Good Evening Las Vegas and welcome to the first night of many that we're doing here. No, no, no never gonna happen was it. That's The Clash there from 1977 their debut album. The song White Riot. The first seven inch single I ever bought of theirs by the way."

The Damned

"OK so here's a couple more artists that are on my Las Vegas residency wishlist. Ha ha if only. Starting off with this. Now answers on a postcard please This intro sounds suspiciously like Lemmy."

"And before that The Damned with their first ever big hit single. Originally on the album Machine Gun Etiquette. That is taken from the Teenage Kicks compilation CD. the song is Love Song."

Ramones

"A residency at CBGB's in New York? Absolutely. In Las Vegas, the Sin City?. Unlikely. That's the Ramones taken there from the Mania collection with Sheena Is a Punk Rocke. The first 12 inch single I ever bought when I was about 16 years old."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, all the way from Las Vegas in Nevada, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time from exactly the same spot. With sixty minutes of slightly different music no doubt."

"I'm gonna leave you though with something that's got nothing to do with Las Vegas whatsoever except for the fact that I'm here and this brand new, brand new Down 'n' Outz. Ues the album is out on October the 11th. The single just dropped two days ago on social media. And here for the first time ever on radio is the title track of our third album. Until next week folks This Is How We Roll."
