DEF LEPPARD Nominated For Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2019

Def Leppard 2018. Def Leppard 2019

Def Leppard have today been announced as a nominee for the American Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2019.

The nominations and fan votes are linked to the annual induction ceremony which takes place on 29th March 2019 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As most fans know the band members have been asked (many) times in recent years about this ceremony and they have always been very dismissive of it with Joe even saying they would 'politely refuse' a nomination and describing those who vote as 'faceless tuxedo-wearing prats'

It appears they have at least accepted their first nomination. As with other artists this does not mean they will be inducted but unlike previous years there is a Fan Vote which can influence the decision of the 'suits'.

The Rock Hall organisers announced the 2019 nominees earlier today with Def Leppard amongst them. The band have been eligible since 2005 with that having been 25 years since their debut album 'On Through The Night'. was released.

If they do get in the current band plus Pete Willis and Steve Clark would all be inducted. And in Pete's case might see him reunited with the band at least to attend the ceremony and perhaps even perform.

Pete's last involvement with the band was the 2002 'VH1 Ultimate Albums Pyromania' special in which he appeared (separately from the others).

Other nominees include - (noted rockers) Janet Jackson and LL Cool J plus fellow UK bands Radiohead and The Cure.

Two other artists were both covered by Def Leppard during the YEAH! session in Roxy Music and the MC5 (although unreleased).

The Fan Vote takes place between 9th October to 9th December - VOTE HERE

The Top 5 artists selected will go into a fan ballot along with the other ballots which then get chosen for induction.

Yes this is the same Hall Of Fame that many 'so-called' rock news websites like to get in a frenzy over any time a band member has mentioned it (or slagged it off) when they aren't busy looking for quotes by Vivian about DIO.

Fans can vote once a day for their chosen artist.

The short lived UK Music Hall Of Fame only lasted from 2004 to 2006 with just three years of inductions. Joe appeared during the video intro for Bon Jovi.

View some of Joe's more humorous quotes below from the last few years.

The fundraiser he mentions in one quote was for the Hall Of Fame itself in Cleveland, OH in 1989 when he performed for the second time with Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson.

Rock Hall 2019 - News Quotes

With their anthemic hooks and melodic but powerful guitars, first time Nominees @defleppard were trailblazers for '80s metal domination.

Trailblazers for '80s metal domination

The most commercially successful New Wave of British Heavy Metal band, Def Leppard ignited the 1980s reign of metal. Their anthemic hooks, melodic but powerful guitars, larger-than-life drum sounds, and sexy swagger created the ultimate stadium experience.

March 2018 - Joe Elliott Interview Quote

"I look at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I look at those not in it and I go, 'Who decides that?'. That's what I think is wrong. When it's, as I like to say, some guys in tuxedos behind a closed curtain deciding who's going to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it's not right. It should be voted on by people who buy their records."

March 2014 - Joe Elliott Interview Quote

"I haven’t thought about it until literally today because they’re asking us our opinion on the Kiss thing. I imagine the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame as this board table with six Mr. Roboto’s sitting around, faceless tuxedo-wearing prats. This is the way I look at it as there are two hats. They pull out the one, “Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Kiss, Motley Crue, fuck that, no.” “Leonard Cohen, John Cougar Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, REM, the Pixies, we want all them in because they’re cool. We don’t want Ratt, we don’t want Poison.” I was really happy when I saw Johnny Rotten tell them to go f**k themselves. That’s what I would do… even if I did get talked out of it by the other guys in the band. But I don’t care. I don’t gain anything from it. If you get an Oscar, your next film you’re gonna be offered five times the money of your last film, and better scripts. When you get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the next day you wake up in the same bed. You don’t get tours thrown at you to open for Led Zeppelin or find out Paul McCartney wants to write a song with you. It’s rubbish. There’s no gain from it."

February 2015 - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

"I could name you a hundred other artists more important than us that aren't in. I did one of the first-ever fundraisers to actually help build the place out in Cleveland, but for some reason that doesn't count for anything. But there you go. That's life. It doesn't bother me at all. It doesn't bother any of us. In fact, we've kind of all decided that, even if we get asked, we're just gonna - how can I put this? - politely refuse, like the Sex Pistols did… Unless there was some kind of online campaign by our fans 'cause they were annoyed by us."

"I never joined a band so I could get into the Hall Of Fame. I joined a band 'cause I wanted to just do what Marc Bolan and David Bowie were doing on 'Top of The Pops' - wear silly clothes and sing silly songs."
