JOE ELLIOTT Says DEF LEPPARD Will Invite PETE WILLIS To Rock Hall Induction

Def Leppard 2002. Pete Willis 2002

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott says the band will include Pete Willis if they get inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Joe was interviewed earlier tosay by Billboard's Gary Graff and talked about hearing of the nomination.

The induction ceremony takes place on 29th March 2019 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The 2019 nominees list was published on 9th October with Def Leppard included for the first time having been eligible since 2005.

Joe talked about how the band learned of the nomination, whether they deserve to be inducted, the other nominees, Pete Willis, the Fan Vote, Jon Bon Jovi, .

He indicated Pete would be included but was not sure if he would want to be. Phil once said they asked Pete to play at one of the 1987 Sheffield shows he attended on the Hysteria tour but he did not went to get on stage.

Pete sat out many live shows with his last band Roadhouse and was replaced by a stand in guitarist.

In January 2018 Joe mentioned plans to release the Oxford 1980 live show featuring the lineup of Pete Willis and Steve Clark with no release date given.

Pete was fired from the band in July 1982 halfway through the making of the 'Pyromania' album.

Billboard - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

Pete Willis

"Pete is very important in the very early embryonic version of this band," Elliott says -- and if the group is inducted it might bring Willis back out into the public for the first time in decades. "I really couldn't tell you how that's going to pan out," Elliott says. "Would we welcome his company? Well, why not? If he's nominated, he's rightly nominated. He does deserve to be on the list."

2018 Tour/Jon Bon Jovi

"I'm on vapors 'cause we've just done 60 shows all over the U.S., I've got a glass of chardonnay and I'm thinking, 'As one door closes, another one opens...' I mean, it's not really gonna change my life, really, one way or the other -- but Jon Bon Jovi has been telling me for at least 12 months that yes, it will."

Rock Hall Fan Vote

"That's kind of swung our attention into a much more positive situation. That sort of makes it a lot more realistic for us. It's not this cloak and dagger thing, it is actually bringing the real people to have a bit of a vote on it, if you will."
