Show Intro

"Well, what is going on with the weather in the UK and Ireland?. It is absolutely mad out there. When I played the old Lindisfarne classic Winter Song, the Def Leppard version of course, just a few weeks ago. I should have saved it for this week because it is absolutely unbelievable. I am still in California and if it makes you feel any better it's just as bad out here. Well, it's not snow, it is absolutely lashing it down with rain and it's in the low 40s and windy and horrible. Ahh it's just not great is it. But what is great is this show. It's the Joe Elliott show on Planet Rock and for the next sixty minutes. It's out there and it's out there in a really good way. Starting off with Sweet."

Sweet

"Well if that didn't warm you up nothing will, will it. That's from the lost singles album which is part of the recently released box set by Sweet with the classic Fox On the Run."

Badfinger

"I was talking to Andy Scott from Sweet a couple of weeks ago and didn't realise actually he's from Wrexham in Wales. This crowd are also from Wales. This crowd are Badfinger."

"And before that Badfinger from their album Straight Up with Baby Blue."

Billy Preston

"Probably best known for his keyboard and hammond organ licks on the Beatles album Let It Be. That from his solo album back in 1969 is Billy Preston. The title track, the song is called That's The Way God Planned It."

Bob Seger And The Silver Bullet Band

"Having been in California for the last two weeks or so I've been listening to a lot of local radio and these next couple of bands that I'm gonna play seem to just come on all the time. In fact let's be honest it's America, they've been coming on for the last 40 years or so. Starting off with Bob Seger And The Silver Bullet Band."

"And before that Bob Seger And The Silver Bullet Band from the Ultimate Hits Rock n Roll Never Forgets with the song called Mainstreet."

Steve Miller Band

"You know I'm thinking after Creedence Clearwater Revival who had many hits in the UK, that the Steve Miller Band were probably the next American artist I ever heard on English radio. It was a worldwide hit. It is the immortal Joker."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock which is coming to you this week from a very rainy and windswept California. It's time for a little break and when we come back, Macca is gonna take us on a bit of a wild goose chase."

Paul McCartney/Wings

"Out of the break we heard the magnificent title track from the 1973 Wings album Band On the Run."

The Who

"That was followed by The Who from their album Odds And Sods with the sing, often covered actually by one Mr. Eddie Vedder. The song Naked Eye."

Def Leppard

"And talking of The Who as many of you already know Def Leppard are gonna be playing live later this month for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Which is a charity set up by The Who's Roger Daltrey. It's a series of shows being played out at the London Royal Albert Hall. Now the Teenage Cancer Trust raises much needed funds for a very, very important cause and these gigs help raise awareness for all the work that the charity does. Now I've managed to snag a pair of tickets for one of you lucky listeners. So if you'd like to go the gig with a partner of your choice on the 25th of March. All you need to do is go to my presenter page on Planet Rock dot com, fill in the online form. It's that simple. Your name will then go into a very rock and roll hat. The competition ends on the 10th March at 7pm so make sure to get your entries in via the Planet Rock website now."

"And if indeed you are a fan of the band and you come to see us at the Albert Hall, you might just hear this song."

"And before that you heard the mighty Leps from their And There Will Be A Next Time...Live in Detroit in 2016 with the opening track of our last studio album. A song called Let's Go."

Cheap Trick

"Confirmed as our special guests on the Hysteria tour of Britain and Ireland in December and on a handful of stadium shows that we're doing in the States with Journey. That is the legendary Cheap Trick from their album Bang, Zoom, Crazy... Hello with the song called The Sun Never Sets. Actually one of my favourite songs that they've ever done."

The Faces

"Right five men walk into a bar. No, it's not the beginning of a bad joke. It's the name of a fantastic box set by Rod Stewart and The Faces."

"And before that the band that made him famous The Faces of course featuring the mighty Rod Stewart. The box set it came from is called Five Guys Walk Into A Bar. And the song we heard is the live BBC performance of Miss Judy's Farm."

Ronnie Wood

"I was leafing through a Ronnie Wood book that he put out about three years ago. It's a diary from when he was about sixteen years old and it's called How Can It Be. And I was looking in the index at the back and it said for your free download of the song called How Can It Be go to Ronnie Wood dot com or whatever it was and I'm like really a free download?, I'll take some of that and I put it on and it's not too bad is it?. That is Ronnie Wood um, it is the title track I guess of his book. I never thought I'd ever say that."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it from a very wet and windy California. I hope the snow clears pretty quickly for you guys so we can get back to normal. Normal being next week at the same time."

"Actually the same Bat channel, the same Bat time. Where is that leading us?. Of course I couldn't help myself. This from 1977 is The Jam. The album In The City. And their amazing version of the Batman Theme . Until next week see ya!."
