DEF LEPPARD 2018 HYSTERIA Tour In BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND (Show Report)

Def Leppard played another show on the 2018 Hysteria tour last night in Birmingham, England with 17 songs performed.

The show took place at the 15,800 capacity Arena Birmingham.

The band's first time in Birmingham since 12th December 2015 on the 2015 World Tour.

The 20th appearance by the band in this city and first time at this venue.

The first visit here was in September 1979 at the Odeon Theatre supporting Sammy Hagar.

They returned for a headline show at the Top Rank Suite in February 1980 before playing the Odeon Theatre themselves in April 1980 during the On Through The Night tour.

Three more Odeon shows followed in July 1981 and in March and December 1983 during the Pyromania tour.

The first of three original Hysteria tour shows took place in September 1987 at the NEC Forum before two shows at the main NEC Arena in April 1988.

Three In The Round shows were then played in June/July 1992 on the Adrenalize tour at the NEC Arena. The only time the band would play three nights at a UK arena.

Two NEC Arena shows were played in November 1996 on the Slang tour followed by a single night in October 1999 on the Euphoria tour.

A smaller scale show at the Carling Academy was then played in October 2003 on the X/Ten world tour.

The returned to the NEC Arena again in June 2008 on the Sparkle Lounge tour with Whitesnake.

The arena was played in December 2011 as the LG Arena before the last show there in December 2015 under the second new name of Genting Arena.

Setlist/Staging

The 'Hysteria' album was played in full for the very first time in Birmingham.

'Run Riot', 'Excitable' and 'Love And Affection' were all played for the first time here.

The full Hysteria album was followed by five songs again. 'Action' was played as song #13.

Cheap Trick/Special Guests

Cheap Trick opened the show and continued their rotating setlist and also two special guests on stage. 'California Man' and Wizzard's song 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday' were played with Roy Wood (The Move/Wizzard/E.L.O.) and Danny McCormack (The Wilddhearts).

"Thank you. Thank you very much Birmingham. And by the way Cheap Trick and Roy Wood. How f**king cool was that. We grew up with Cheap Trick, but a few years before when we first got our record players we had singles by The Move and then he was in Wizzard and a little bit in E.L.O.. Roy Wood f**king hero to Cheap Trick. Hero to Def Leppard. Great to see him back on his home soil if you will in front of so many people and doing the Christmas song how f**king cool was that?!."

"Well as you just heard we did the album from start to finish. The whole f**king thing. So now what do you want? What are we gonna do?. I'll tell ya what we're gonna do some stuff that came before Hysteria. We're gonna do some stuff that came after Hysteria. And keeping it in that kinda like glam rock theme we're gonna give you this one tonight to start off with."

"Thank you. Thank you very much. Alright at the back?. Alright at the back?. Over here?. Over here?. Um I forgot to mention something. Actually I didn;t forget it's just that you know we don't wanna sound like f**king big heads or anything but we're in the f**king Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame thank you very much. You did it right. You did it. The biggest fan vote of all time. Of all time was for us so anybody that voted we f**king love you to death man, and woman. Thank you so much. In the same Hall of Fame as other fantastic Black Country artists like Sabbath and the Moody Blues and oh yeah Led Zeppelin. So thank you. Thank you, thank you."

"And nobody is more deserving of a place in that Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame than this boy at the back here. Stand up Rick Allen!. And as always he will introduce this one for ya."
