The venue is located to the East of the city centre and within the grounds of the annual Summerfest music festival in Henry Maier Festival Park and on the coastline of Milwaukee Bay.
It was opened in 1987 as Marcus Amphitheater.
Since 2017 it has been known as American Family Insurance Amphitheater.
A show played on U.S. Independence Day with Neal Schon playing 'The Star Spangled Banner' during his guitar solo.
