2 Years Ago DEF LEPPARD Album At #1 On The UK Rock Chart

Def Leppard 2015.

Def Leppard's current self-titled studio album entered the UK charts on this day in 2015.

The band's tenth studio album of all original material had been release on 30th October around the world.

The album entered the main UK Top 40 album chart at Number 11 despite being tipped for a Top Five entry in the mid week chart.

It would fair much better on the Rock And Metal chart by entering at Number One.

The band's second Number One on the rock chart after 2008's 'Songs From The Sparkle Lounge'.

A rock chart which had only existed since the X/Ten era when that album got to Number 3.

'Songs From The Sparkle Lounge' had entered at Number 10 on the main album chart in May 2008 with 'Mirrorball' only peaking at 44 and 'VIVA! Hysteria' at 73.

The album also entered the Independent chart at Number 2 and was Top Ten on the Vinyl, Sales and Physical charts.

Phil Collen - September 2015 Interview Quote

"We started writing all these stupid names down like we normally do, and I said, 'Why don't we call it 'Def Leppard' 'cause this is like, who knows if there will be another Def Leppard album, per se, with the way the industry is, and the fact that this record actually represents us. It doesn't represent someone else's, you know, a label, a business agenda or anything else's idea of what Def Leppard is. This is actually Def Leppard's version of Def Leppard. That's actually why we called it it."

Joe Elliott - 2015 Interview Quotes

"It's got a bit of everything. And that's why the album is called Def Leppard."

"We called it Def Leppard because we thought it sounded like Def Leppard."

"Well we were kinda playing it for a few people as we were making it or we were talking about it with a few people and close friends. And we all found by accident that we were individually saying like when people said well what does it sound like?. We were all saying well it kinda sounds like Def Leppard. And I think Phil Collen said why don't we just call it Def Leppard. You know and we're not trying to hang a - too much of an importance on a title track or spending for hours you know just trying to come up with a title that matches up with the artwork and all this kind of stuff. Just seemed like a good idea. You know it summed up who we are now."
