Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you again. We have what I like to consider sixty minutes of amazing music. Coming to ya this week all the way from sunny California where we're just coming to the end of a little break. Back out next week. Let's get the show on the road shall we. A little Kitsch from the Heavy Metal Kids."

Heavy Metal Kids

"Actually recorded as a stand alone single but these days can be found as a bonus track on the 1976 album Kitsch. That is the Heavy Metal Kids with Delirious."

Doctors Of Madness

"Now celebrating their brand new retrospective box set. This is the very wonderful Doctors Of Madness."

"And before that the Doctors Of Madness from their latest triple box set which is called Perfect Past. But originally from their debut album Late Nite Movies, All Nite Brainstorms we heard the song Billy Watch Out."

Alice Cooper

"If you go on YouTube you can actually see footage of the band. The original Alice Cooper band reunited in Nashville, Tennessee just a few days ago. Well, most of the band, because sadly Glen Buxton died in 1997 but the rest of the guys were all there and that is one of the songs they played from their 1973 album. The title track Billion Dollar Babies."

Mick Ronson

"And while we're on the subject of the name Billy. Can you imagine how many songs there are with the word Billy in the title or the lyrics?. Well, I wouldn't know either but I have got for a laugh I put together, quite a while ago, a setlist called Songs About Billy and I've got at least 28, 29 songs in that setlist. There's things like Billy Bolero by Alex Harvey. There is Ballad Of Billy The Kid by Billy Joel. There's Rat Trap by The Boomtown Rats. Billy's Got A Gun. Billy Don't Be A Hero. Billi-on Dollar Babies even. Nah I'll get my coat....but this is magnificent. This is Mick Ronson."

"And before that Mick Ronson from 1975. His second solo album Play Don't Worry. The almost hit single Billy Porter."

The Cybernauts

"From 2001 that is The Cybernauts which is basically yours truly. Phil Collen on guitar. The late great Dick Decent on keyboards. The late great Trevor Bolder on bass and Woody Woodmansey. We did a bunch of Bowie stuff as a kind of a tribute really to Mick Ronson. That is our version of the Bowie written but Mott The Hoople driven All The Young Dudes."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show all the way from sunny California this week. It's time for a little break and when we come back. Well, I'm not gonna do it but you can if you want. Count all those Earls from Mar."

Genesis

"And before that Genesis from the album Wind And Wuthering with the Eleventh Earl of Mar."

Chris Cornell

"As I'm sure you're already aware, the rock world was dealt yet another devastating blow this week with the death of Chris Cornell from Soundgarden, Audioslave and a great solo career."

"He was a force to be reckoned with, with that voice. So much so that you don't get chosen everyday to sing the theme tune to a Bond film. And there we just heard Chris Cornell, rest in peace mate, from the Casino Royale Original Soundtrack with a song called You Know My Name."

Focus

"OK it's time for a little bit of double Dutch. It's not very often a band yodel their way into the charts. Focus did."

"And before that Focus, yet another Dutch band, with their incredible yodelling performance on the song called Hocus Pocus."

Golden Earring

"Recorded at Wisseloord Studios where Def Leppard spent, it seemed like an eternity recording the Hysteria record. So we heard all the stories about the recording techniques that were employed by that band Golden Earring for the song which never ever gets old Radar Love. Absolutely brilliant stuff."

Dirty Tricks

"Now here's a UK band that never really hit the big time but in my world they made a big impression. This is Dirty Tricks."

"And before that Dirty Tricks. In fact sounding a little bit like Free themselves from their third album. The title track Night Man."

Free

"To this day I still remember buying that single from a record store in Sheffield called Violet May. Or as we liked to call it Violent May because that lady, if she saw you hanging around the record racks for too long, she would have you out on you ear. Nasty bit of work. What a great shop. That is Free. These days you can find that track on the remastered version of Highway. The song is My Brother Jake."

Show Outro

"And talking of Free. Specifically Paul Rodgers. You may have seen in the news this week how on his Free Spirit tour of the UK at the Oxford New Theatre he was joined onstage by a couple of very special guests. AC/DC's Brian Johnson and the great Robert Plant. Who had just finished shooting the last episode of the TV show that Johnno is presenting called A Life On The Road. They dropped in to see the show. Paul Rodgers dragged them up for the encore and they did a magnificent job of a 1959 song written by a guy called Barrett Strong. The song is Money.

"We are gonna end this weeks show with said song but this version if the by The Beatles. And so until next week enjoy and see ya!."
