Def Leppard and KISS announced their Summer Tour of the USA and Canada three years ago on this day in 2014.

The tour was announced on 17th March 2014 at a press conference in Los Angeles.

The event was held at the House Of Blues before an audience of 200 invited military veterans and service members and streamed live on Live Nation's website.

The bands played 42 shows between 23rd June 2014 in West Valley City/Salt Lake City, UT through to 31st August in Houston/Woodlands, TX.

One dollar from every ticket sold was donated to veterans.

This was the first time the two bands had toured together. A rumoured continuation of the tour into 2015 did not happen.

During the tour Joe introduced KISS multiple times starting at the 26th July show in Holmdel, NJ.

Later at a 2nd August show in Atlantic City, NJ Phil became only the second musician to guest on stage with KISS when he joined them on the song 'Deuce'. KISS have since had a third guest with Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick joining them in Rockford, IL in August 2016.

2014 Def Leppard/KISS - News Quotes

Joe Elliott - "We're not jam bands either of us," Elliott said in an interview from Dublin. "It's very theatrical what Kiss does to a lesser extent obviously 'cause we don't do the makeup thing, our show runs like a military operation for sure. It's not like the Grateful Dead and Phish touring or something."

"You have two bands who to one degree or another have stood the test of time and put them together and you'll have a great night of music," said Paul Stanley of Kiss in an interview. "We're living in a time now where everyone wants more for their money, and that's understandable. So, when you can get two bands to collaborate together, we couldn't pick a better band for this tour than Def Leppard to go out with us."

"The "2014 Heroes Tour" will help change the lives of veterans and military families across America. That's why KISS and Def Leppard are teaming up with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring our Heroes program to make this special announcement in front of an exclusive audience of the men and women who have proudly served our country."

Touring With KISS/Introducing Them

"You know what I'd been threatening to do it the whole tour and it got to the last night before a five day break and I thought if this is one of them things that's gonna rip my throat out I've got five days recover. I was so aware of what KISS Alive II was. I'm gonna introduce you guys tonight. So I went over to their - normally one of their techs does it and he just gave me the mike and of course - but it's so I heard somebody downloaded it off some radio station yesterday. They played my intro and then Detroit Rock City. Yeah that was me as you can see I punched the air after I did it."

Touring With KISS

"This is one of the best tours we've ever done with another band. We get on so well. I think because of where the industry is at in this day and age. The fact that there's only a few bands left you know that didn't kind of completely split up and - we've not done any reunion tours and KISS have still been going. They've still been kind of keeping their message strong and we have and I think there's something that we both recognise in each other and it's really good. It's kind of like a team."
