Show Intro

"Evening all. Welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Which this week is coming to you all the way from Joe's Garage. Or as the Americans would like to say Joe's GaraRge. It was named after the Frank Zappa song because what else are you gonna call a studio in your own home if your name is Joe. Well, that's what I did. It's great to be back home, it really is. If I felt any better, I'd be in Utopia."

Utopia

"I saw that band open for Led Zeppelin at Knebworth on the 4th of August 1979. Now why do I remember that date so well?. Well, the very next day Def Leppard signed their record deal with Polygram Records and we had to sign it in Rick Allen's parents house because at the age of 15, he wasn't old enough to sign a contract. That folks is an absolute fact. The band we just heard from 1977. The album Ra, the band Utopia. The song Overture Mountaintop And Sunrise: Communion For The Sun."

Boomtown Rats

"Well as I am back home in sunny Dublin let's go Irish for a little while shall we. This from the same year as Utopia, but a little bit more modern sounding, is the Boomtown Rats."

"And before that the Boomtown Rats from their classic Rats collection Back To Boomtown with She's So Modern."

U2

"A band I shall be seeing live on stage in about seven days time actually. From their latest album. Or their last album at least, Songs Of Innocence. That is U2, Raised by Wolves is the song."

Thin Lizzy

"You know there's some great music that comes out of Ireland like this for instance."

"And before that Thin Lizzy from the album Vagabonds Of The World with the fantastic Rocker."

Horslips

"They were, or they are, an amazing live band. And I say are/were because they kinda split but they get back together for the odd show. Kinda like Lindisfarne do up in Newcastle every Christmas for the last 50 years or so. The band are Horslips, the album Book Of Invasions, the song we just heard Warm Sweet Breath Of Love."

"Coming to ya from my home studio in Dublin, Ireland this is the Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back, a beautiful acapella opening by Yes."

Yes

"And before that we heard Yes from the Yes album with the most beautiful I've Seen All Good People."

Jethro Tull

"Now when you've been away from home since the 27th of March you do tend to come home to an enormous pile of mail. There's the white envelopes that are full of bills or final demands. And then there's the sexier pile in the corner which is cardboard. Which is normally, or hopefully, vinyl, CD's, DVDs etc. And amongst that enormous pile that I had was one from my new BFF. A gentleman called James Anderson, son of Ian, the leader and founder of Jethro Tull. He sent me the brand new box set and the fantastically put together it is to, of Songs From The Wood. So I thought well I just had to play something and there from the 1977 album we heard Jethro Tull with Hunting Girl."

The Motors

"OK time to rev it up a little bit and get out the whisky and wine. This is The Motors."

"And before that we heard The Motors produced by Robert John 'Mutt' Lange from 1977,the song Whisky And Wine."

UFO

"I have to confess that at least one of those white envelopes waiting for me upon my return wasn't a bill or a final notice because it was too big and too padded. So I thought yeah that's a sexy one like the brown cardboard ones in the other corner of the room and I was right to surmise that it was sent to me by Mr. Ross Halfin. Legendary photographer and it is the autobiography of on me Mr. Pete Way the bass player of UFO. It is called A Fast Ride Out Of Here. It's an hilarious read. It's actually quite harrowing in parts because as we all know if we're UFO fans, Pete Way was a bit of a character. We hung quite tightly actually in the 80s when I lived in London. There's a brilliant foreword by Steve Harris from Iron Maiden and some hilarious tales. Some of them quite tall, especially the ones involving me. But having said that if you're a UFO fan, you are gonna love this book and if you're a UFO fan hopefully you love the song that we just heard, the very Pete Way driven Cherry from their 1978 album Obsession."

The Stranglers

"Right this next crowd used to be called the Guildford Stranglers. They dropped the former part of their name because I believe they thought that something better change."

"And before that The Stranglers from their second album No More Heroes with Something Better Change."

The Psychedelic Furs

"They're on tour this summer in fact they're playing the Dublin Academy in August. That's a venue I haven't set foot in since the last night of the Down 'n' Outz tour of 2014. That's a long time ago, but then again I have been quite busy with that other band of mine. The band we just heard Psychedelic Furs from the album Talk Talk Talk, the song Pretty In Pink."

Show Outro

"And that my friends all the way from Joe's Garage, Joe's GaraRge, you can pick whichever way you wanna pronounce it yourselves, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at the same time."

"Until then I\m gonna leave you with this because to be quite honest I still after three weeks can not get the visuals or the aural feast out of my head that I experienced when I saw Queen in San Jose, California. It was something very special indeed. They are playing a lot of songs from the album News Of The World for it is 40 years old this year. However they're not playing this, so I thought I would. This is Sheer Heart Attack. Until next week see ya!."
