Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott spoke about the 30th anniversary of the Hysteria album last week and video footage is available.

Joe talked to AP about the album's 30th anniversary and the new reissue.

In a short two minute video Joe talks about the anniversary, the success of the album, it's sales and being copied by other artists.

"I don't really keep much of an eye on that. I keep getting told it's 22, maybe 23 million now. At the time it hit ten which was insane. I mean just five guys from England, it's like really?. Pinch yourself because is this really happening?. It was very exciting."

Album Success

"It took a long time to really establish itself as a big record and it was ticking along at and we kept putting singles out after single and they were hits. but then Sugar really took it to the next level."

"You know it's such a proud moment to be able to say yeah you've done this and the only other band that have ever done it were like Van Halen, The Beatles, maybe Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd. And you're looking at Led Zeppelin and you're like wow this is the cream of the crop. And to be in that company, it doesn't matter if you're on the bottom. You're in the right division. ."

Being Copied

"You know sometimes we'd been in a car and somebody's got the radio on and you can hear Phil on somebody else's record because it's the haze off the back of Pour Some Sugar and you're like that's us. Oh not it's sample, we made it sound like you. Yeah it is! And we don't care. The grown ups can try and sue each other, it doesn't matter. The same thing happened with One Direction when the had this song called Midnight Memories and we had all these people going; 'Are you gonna sue them?'. We said why?. It's just - if we did that then we'd be getting sued by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. We'd be getting sued by Queen and all these bands because we had songs that sound similar to those groups."
