34 Years Ago RICK SAVAGE Incident On DEF LEPPARD's Pyromania Tour

Def Leppard played a show on the Pyromania tour in Eugene, OR on 2nd August 1983 and an archive tour story is available to read.

Rick Savage explained a bizarre incident to various rock magazines in 80s.

The incident happened before the show at the Exhibition Hall.

This was their first visit to Eugene since May 1980.

The concert at the University Of Oregon was the 8th show played on their debut US tour supporting Pat Travers.

"We were in Oregon; I was in my hotel room, laid on the bed with the window open, and talking on the phone. I looked out of the window and all of a sudden I saw these hands on the balcony. I knew they were female hands. These girls had found out where we were, got into the room below, and scaled the walls... but I was on the tenth floor!."

"I was dumbstruck! I just didn't know what to do...so I just closed the curtains. I know it was a wimp-out, but I didn't want to look out because I thought it might freak them out and they'd have fallen. So I closed the curtains and hoped they would go away. It was unbelievable and a little bit scary."

Rick Savage Hotel Story - 1988 Interview Quotes

"The strangest thing that ever happened to me was in Eugene, Oregon. We finished the sound check and we'd come back to the hotel and I was laying on my bed making a few phone calls."

"I was looking out the window and all of a sudden I saw these two female hands appear on the balcony. It totally freaked me out because I was on the 10th floor."

"Somebody had actually figured out what room I was in and checked into the room immediately below me, got out on the balcony and tried scaling up to my balcony just to peek through the window. I honestly didn't know what to do, so without really thinking, I got up and closed the curtains."

"I suppose the oddest one or the most dangerous one I can think of was Sav, Rick Savage was in his hotel room in 1983 when we'd just kicked in in the States and we were like the new boys and it was just going through the roof. And he was I don't maybe the 17th, 18th floor of the hotel and somebody climbed up the outside from the balcony below on to the balcony of his room."

"And I was thinking that's - you've got some balls to do that girl. You know it's a long way down if you slip you know what I mean. It's like that's pretty desperate and fair play to Sav he saw her and he just went up to the window and he shut the curtains."
