The Joe Elliott Show #316 - Transcript

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome to the wonderful Planet Rock. This is the Joe Elliott show. A very excitable Joe Elliott tonight because I'm back home for a couple of weeks. Def Leppard just finished leg two of the tour Wednesday night in a place called Darien Lake which is close to Buffalo, Upstate New York. And so close to the Canadian border in fact, that I actually flew home from Toronto."

"We have sixty minutes of fantastic music for ya tonight. Starting off with this beauty which speaks for itself. Rocking the nation, this is Montrose."

Montrose

"Never really taken seriously by a lot of rock critics for their similarity at the time to the first Led Zeppelin record but really stands up for itself. Produced by Ted Templeman who would go on the produce the first two of three Van Halen albums, about four or five years later on. That is Montrose from their debut album in '73. A song called Rock The Nation."

Hawkwind

"And here's a band. Well, they're quarky, they're strange but they're charming. This is Hawkwind."

"And before that we heard Hawkwind with the title track of their very, very unusual album Quark Strangeness And Charm."

Sloan

"Just proving that you can actually live under a rock longer than you should. I was only introduced to that band a couple of months ago by a friend of mine. They're Canadian. They're called Sloan and that is from 1998. And the band in fact go back to 1994. The album is called Navy Blues and that song is called Money City Maniacs."

The Quireboys

"Here's something brand new for ya. This is The Quireboys."

"And before that brand new Quireboys. The title track actually from their forthcoming album Twisted Love."

T. Rex

"From the first album I ever owned. Not the first album I ever bought, but the first album I ever owned and yes it was a gift. T. Rex 1971. The album Electric Warrior. the song we just heard The Motivator."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back. Well, a bit of foreplay with Boston. Ooer."

Queen

"What an amazingly creative force that four piece band were. And when the drummer comes up with songs like that, well really you just can't lose can ya. That is Queen from the album Jazz with No More Of That Jazz."

Boston

"And before that from their debut album we heard Boston with Foreplay which ran into Long Time."

The Heavy Metal Kids

"Right then from Boston to Chelsea. This is The Heavy Metal Kids."

"And before that The Heavy Metal Kids from their 1976 album Kitsch with the classic Chelsea Kids."

Sparks

"Originally the B Side of their second single Amateur Hour but these days can be found as a bonus track on the album Kimono My House. That is Sparks with Lost And Found."

Starz

"Now here's a band from Los Angeles that hardly anybody other than Geoff Barton has ever heard of. This is Starz."

"And before that the band that hardly anybody has ever heard of. They disappeared through the cracks. But they did leave us with three minutes worth of heaven. That heaven was a song called Cherry Baby."

The Move

"I've been listening to a lot of Roy Wood recently and for all his endeavours as a solo artist. And his contributions to bands like E.L.O. and of course Wizzard. I think he will always be mostly remembered for being a co-founder of the mighty Move. So I thought I'd play them. From their Best Of collection that is the Move there with Tonight."

Show Outro

"And that about wraps it up for this week folks. Been a pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week god willing at the same time."

"Until then let's go out on the raunchiest note that I can think of. From the Slade Alive album, this is Slade with Get Down (and get) With It. Till next week see ya!."
