Vivian talks about the Last In Line Heavy Crown album and 2016 tour, US tour issues, Jimmy Bain's death, writing songs, new band members, the current Def Leppard album, the 2016 tour, his current health status and the usual stuff about DIO (joining them and being fired).

The interview starts at just after 12 minutes into the one hour podcast and lasts until 41 minutes in.

The Def Leppard part begins at 37 minutes in with Vivian saying his Immunotherapy treatment can only last until summer of 2017 when he'd have to look at "other options".

The interview was conducted before the Phoenix, AZ show on 20th September.

Talking Metal Podcast - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

Def Leppard Taking a break right now?

"Well, no I'm actually in Phoenix right now. I'm on stage in a couple of hours. We're just into the third leg. Third and final leg of this summer tour. We'll be done by October 10th. Right before I start up with Last In Line."

"So the Leppard tour it's been very, very successful. We're out with REO Speedwagon and Tesla and we started this run of shows probably in late June. And like I say we wrap October 10th and then by October 22nd I'll be onstage with Last In Line. So I'm keeping busy."

His Current Health Status

"Yeah, You know it's just, somebody said it's one step forward, two steps back. I'm not concerned about my health and I never really have been to be honest. Maybe that's the wrong approach, I don't know. But it kinda works for me. I don't put a lot of thought into it. You know it's maintenance."

"The treatment that I'm doing right now I have to receive every month or so and for the most part it seems to be working. You know it's holding the cancer at bay at least. it's very benign in terms of side effects. Certainly nowhere near as harsh as the chemo I did a couple of years of years ago."

"But you know I've done three rounds of chemo and a stem cell transplant and the cancer kept coming back. And now I'm doing this Immunotherapy, part of an FDA clinical trial and like I say it's working for me for now. And I can do this at least until next summer. And then I'll have to re-assess and I'll have to do radiation or something else but I try not to think about it too much. It's maintenance like going to the dentist you know."

"I feel very fortunate that I'm at least able to continue my work while I'm doing all this. You know a lot of people suggested to me when I first got a cancer diagnosis that I sit at home and look after myself and I couldn't imagine anything worse to be honest. I mean I'd say more than anything else, having cancer really lit a fire under my ass if you like. I mean it's really reinvigorated my passion for life and for my work. Which is a big reason why I started pushing with the Last In Line band. I mean nothing gives me more joy than to go out there and beat the shit out of Les Paul. You know to really get aggressive with it again."

"You know don't have to play very aggressively with Def Leppard. The challenge in Def Leppard is more about the vocal you know. When I go onstage with Last In Line I don't sing I just play guitar. And I play a lot of guitar and it feels good you know."
