The Joe Elliott Show #319 - Transcript

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the fantastic Planet Rock. This week it is coming to you all the way from Sacramento in California. We are working our way up the West Coast of the USA. We just played a gig in a place called Irvine which is kind of halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles. And very sadly it's gonna be the last time we ever play there because they're about to tear it down and turn it into a housing estate. Now that ladies and gentleman is what I call a Rock 'N' Roll Damnation."

AC/DC

"As I said it's a great gig. It's a real shame it was a complete sell out. We had a great time but it'll be the last time we ever play there. So alternative venues on a postcard please to this address. That was AC/DC from the album Powerage with Rock 'N' Roll Damnation."

Black Star Riders

"Now having just spent a couple of days in Los Angeles I was catching up with a few people I know here. And one of my best friends in the entire world Ricky Warwick lives here. He tells me they just got back from Nashville. They've finished the new Black Stars Riders album. I have heard some of it. Sadly you won't hear any of it until February. So let's hear something from the Killer Instinct album shall we."

"And before that Killer Instinct the title track from the second Black Star Riders album. New one out in February next year."

Ellen Foley

"What an amazing cover of a Rolling Stones song that is from 1979. Produced and mixed by Mick Ronson and Ian Hunter. With some fantastic guitar playing from Ronno on that song. The album is Night Out. The artist Ellen Foley. The song we just heard Stupid Girl."

The Sinceros

"Right then time for a little bit of synth pop. A double bill in fact starting off with this very scratchy version of a song by The Sinceros."

"And before that similar sounding stuff actually from a fantastically named album The Sound Of Sunbathing. That was The Sinceros we started off with there with Take Me To Your Leader."

The Cars

"What a great sounding album that is. It was produced by Queen's producer Roy Thomas Baker. The band are The Cars from their debut album. It was a B Side of their first ever single. A song called Moving In Stereo."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show all the way from Sacramento in California this week. It's time for a little break and when we come back well we're heading off to the Psycho Circus with KISS."

KISS

"And before that in their own madness. KISS with the title track of their 1998 album Psycho Circus."

Doctors Of Madness

"A band I discovered when they were the opening act for Be Bop Deluxe on the 1876 Sunburst Finish tour. That is the Doctors Of Madness from their debut album Late Night Movies, All Night Brainstorm. Catchy little title that one isn't it. The song Billy Watch out."

Aerosmith

"OK rocking from a hard place. This is Aerosmith."

"And before that Aerosmith. Title track from their album Draw the Line."

U.F.O.

"That band were such an influence on a fledgling Def Leppard back in 1978. the band is U.F.O. from the album Obsession with the fantastic Hot And Ready."

The Stranglers

"OK time for a little bit of British New Wave, albeit sounding a bit like The Doors, this is The Stranglers."

"And before that The Stranglers from their debut album Rattis Navegicus with the song Sometimes."

The Clash

"I forget where I first heard that song. I don't know whether it was a B Side or it was a free giveaway in a magazine. These days you can find it on an album called Super Black Market Clash, It is The Clash The City Of The Dead."

Show Outro

"And that my friends all the way from Sacramento in California is about it for this week. It's been a pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at the same time god willing from a place called Tacoma. Where Def Leppard will be playing the Tacoma Dome for the first time since 1988 which was also historically the last gig that Steve Clark ever played with the band. So that will be a bit of a poignant evening. And we'll celebrate that somehow next week."

"Until then though let's go out with one of the best dances that never existed. This is Roxy Music and Do The Strand. Until next week see ya!."
