Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen was recently interviewed by Omaha, NE radio and mentioned the upcoming Classic Rock awards.

Phil talked about working with Tesla, performing on stage with them, recording ideas on his iPhone, his autobiography, recording new music/2017 touring, working out on tour and playing new songs live.

Phil also revealed the news that the band have won the vote for the Classic Rock Album Of The Year award.

Voting recently closed for the awards which take place in Tokyo, Japan on 11th November.

It appears this was the reason Joe was added to the lineup for the awards and will accept it with Phil for the rest of the band.

Phil's attendance was announced in August as part of the tribute to guitarist Jeff Beck.

He also followed up his news from August that the band will tour in 2017 without mentioning any locations this time.

Phil was promoting the recent show in Omaha, NE at CenturyLink Center Omaha.

Crash Davis/101.9 The Keg - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

Future Plans/Releases/Touring

"There's so much going on. You know we finish this tour, Def Leppard, and obviously I have to finish the Tesla album off. We're releasing the Delta Deep live album, which we recorded this year on tour."

"And also me and Joe Elliott are going to Japan. We won the Classic Rock award Album Of The Year in England and they're having it in Japan. And I'm also joining Jeff Beck onstage. He's gonna be honoured as well."

"So it's busy. Then we get back and you know then we're thinking of new Def Leppard music at some point. You know so it's just absolutely non stop. And then we're gonna be touring again next year at some point. So I have no details on that. So it's all kind of - there's a lot of busy stuff coming up. I don't even know when it's gonna happen."

New Def Leppard Music

"I'm already writing already and I've got a bunch of stuff that would be perfect for the next Def Leppard album. And it's like I said you know everyday I'm writing music and coming up with ideas and everything. Yeah the second we get a second break and I actually then I put a bit more effort into that. So it's, yeah you only have so much energy. We're actually supposed to be recording today with Tesla as well like either just before or just after my soundcheck with Def Leppard. So it's like yeah we have to cram it in. It's crazy."

Playing New Songs Live/Def Leppard Album

"One of the great things about this record. Whenever we play new material it's always a bit of a struggle. You know you have to find a good place for it in the set. But everyone's just loving the new stuff. So that really worked out well. So when we play them, they feel like the other songs. We've got it down now. So it's, no loving it. It's amazing."
