The Joe Elliott Show #321 - Transcript

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming to you this week all the way from Toledo in Ohio on what is the penultimate night of the 2016 Def Leppard world tour. We have one left in a place called Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then after that I shall be winging it home to friends and family I haven't seen in months and seriously, I cannot wait. We have some great music for you tonight. We're gonna be wearing and tearing through the next sixty minutes. Starting off with this beauty by Led Zeppelin."

Led Zeppelin

"A song originally written for the In Through the Out Door sessions but was left off for what I can only imagine were artistic reasons. But it did make for a great track on their post career album Coda from 1982. That is Led Zeppelin with Wearing And Tearing."

Rose Tattoo

"OK prepare yourself for some great slide playing. This is Rose Tattoo."

"And before that Rose Tattoo from 2007 I think it was. The album is Blood Brothers and the song we heard Once In A Lifetime."

Jonny Cola And The A-Grades

"That is the title track of an EP that was released in 2012 by a band called Jonny Cola And The A-Grades. The song Halo."

Tesla

"Now I mentioned at the top of the show how the tour was winding down to a close for this year. Thought I'd play you the couple of bands that have been opening for Def Leppard this whole summer. And what a joy it has been to tour with both of these bands. Starting off with Tesla."

"And before that Tesla. I took it from their Best Of, Times Making Changes album. The song Gettin' Better."

Reo Speedwagon

"Now there's a band that has the word perseverance tattooed on their hearts because I believe it was their 11th album before they really broke big. They had a kind of a cult following all over the States for many years. And there from their 1979 album Nine Lives we heard Reo Speedwagon with Back On The Road Again."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on Planet Rock all the way this week from Toledo in Ohio. It's time for a little break and when we come back Todd Rundgren's Utopia are gonna take us to the land of Ra."

Todd Rundgren's Utopia

"And before that out the break we heard Utopia from their album Ra back in 1977. With a song called, you ready for this?, Overture: Mountaintop And Sunrise/Communion With The Sun. Wow."

Elton John

"If you've never seen the film Almost Famous, which is based on Cameron Crowe's diaries as a young teenage journalist for Rolling Stone. It is worth watching along for the scene where the band and the crew and Kate Hudson sing that song whilst travelling through the middle of nowhere on a tour bus. It's phenomenal. The song is Tiny Dancer from the album Madmen Across The Water of course Elton John."

London

"OK time for some good old UK punk rock. This is London."

"And before that a band called London. Who featured John Moss on drums who would later join Boy George in Culture Club. The song we just heard there, Everyone's A Winner."

The Ramones

"And a nice bit of New York punk to follow as well. That is The Ramones and the first 12 inch single of theirs I ever bought. A song called Sheena Is A Punk Rocker."

The Beatles

"Talking of everyone's a winner. This band hardly ever put a foot wrong. This is The Beatles."

"And before that from the 2009 mono remaster, we heard The Beatles with Nowhere Man."

Cheap Trick

"Another band there that barely ever put a foot wrong in my eyes at least. That is Cheap Trick from the album Standing On the Edge. The song How About You."

Show Outro

"And that my friends all the way from Toledo in Ohio is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you god willing next week at the same time all the way from home. Where I may even nip into the studio which is what brought this last song I'm about to play into my mind."

"Five years ago I had the great privilege of working in my studio with Brian Downey and Scott Gorham on some Thin Lizzy remixes. So I thought we'd end the show with this one from 1977. Originally on the Johnny The Fox album. This is Don't Believe A Word. Until next week see ya!."
